Are you new to sports videography and not sure where to start? Beyond the Game is a source of educational sports videography content giving you the tools and knowledge you need to create epic sports videos and ultimately achieve your dream of working alongside the athletes you idolize.
A little bit about me... After 6 years producing content for NHL, NBA, and UFC live events, I left it all behind me and decided to follow my heart and move to Australia for love. I still had a passion for sports videography though, so I quickly started learning as much as I could about Australian sports and the Australian sports industry. The next thing you know, I was producing video content for sport clubs, federations, leagues and promoters all over the country while documenting my journey on this channel.

I use WeTransfer but find my clients videos always look worse when they post them compared to if I post them. Is there any particular export settings I should be using or settings within WeTransfer to prevent losing quality when transferring even through the likes of WeTransfer?
I used a Sony 70-200mm GM F2.8 mkII for football and a Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8 for basketball. I reviewed both these lenses on my channel. Let mer know if you want the links.
I usually shoot the scoreboard after a shot I want to keep - That way I have a 'timecode' I can reference if I am trying to lineup audio from a broadcast or something. and I have my own 'code' I use - like 2 shots of a scoreboard is a scoring play, 3 shots is an EPIC scoring play, 1 shot is just a nice non-scoring play.
Yup. So in my clip list, I’ll see 3 shots of the scoreboard, marking that the shot before the first scoreboard shot is an epic score and should go straight to the team for social media at halftime or post game or something.
You're definitely entitled to your own opinion and preferences, but "not professional" is a weird way to put it since I've been editing videos professionally for over 20 years.
HELP!! I bought this camera to record my sons hockey games but I cannot figure out how to lock in the focus so the netting around the rink doesn't screw up the focus. Used it today for the first time in a game and it came out terrible. Had much better results with a regular iPhone.
This is not really a camera issue, it’s just how autofocus works. You can either do what a phone does, which is to use a very high aperture to get everything in focus. Or you could shoot in manual focus. Or you could get so close to the netting that the camera can’t focus on it. Or you could buy a 70-200mm Sony lens and turn on the feature that prevents it from focusing on anything 3M or closer.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Please don't take it as me questioning your review and saying a phone is better. I just have no idea how to use it yet. It's totally user error. I didn't know getting closer to the net would prevent the focus zeroing in on it. I think I will try there first before investing in another lens. As far as manual focus, I don't have the skill to change that as they are moving up and down the ice at fast speeds. Thank you for the reply and feedback.
Wouldn’t you be able to use the rate feature in camera and then sort by rated clips in finder/explorer and maybe import the rated into a separate folder? Or does it only rate stills on Sonys?
I have to buy a camera and have been watching your videos for tips, for filming the original football and also taking the occasional pictures of my kid and family which will you absolutely recommend between the a6700 and the zv-e10ii
This is such a smart and easy tip, that people think, "I should have done this a long time ago." lol. On another note, what program do you use to edit photos? I thought it looked like Davinci Resolve.
it would be dope if it could be identified via Finder or Premiere or Davinci. Come on Sony, seperate the gap even further between you and other camera brands!
Hate to sound dumb, I usually shoot 60frames 1/125 shutter and I slow the footage down to 40% in Premier for slow mo. If I double the shutter to 250, can I still slow it down to 40% or is there a new formula I'd have to figure out for slow mo?
When over cranking your shutter speed, your footage will actually look much better in slow motion. In full speed is where it looks kind of jittery depending on how high you go with the shutter speed.
Sorry I don't. But no matter what your lighting conditions are, learning the exposure triangle is always the answer. And there are plenty of videos about it on RU-vid already.
I agree it's kinda useless, because who open catalyst browse.... It should be that the marker can be read in all NLE and you could categorize and search for all clips with marker or even better. I think Blackmagic does this in there metadata page on their camera, but I could be mistaken.
i am an exchange student currently in the U.S in highschool. I've always wanted to do Camerawork and videography/Cinematography as a career and just now have i discovered "hype videos" or Sports montages like these. My school hired me as their media manager and media producer for basketball. Your videos help out very much when basically having to make a genre i have never done before. My school is very pleased with my short videos that gets posted every now and then on their channel. I subscribed and hope to make some cool stuff in the minds of your creative ways.
Have been looking to buy a camera, got my eyes on this camera, exact same camera, color and everything, but I am too broke to have this. It's my favorite too.
Hey Mr E. I’ve really started to want to do sports videography and I’ve watched all your videos on what to do and what to get. Thank you so much. Jesus loves you and I hope you keep going an inspiring people!
Just a question…So do you make a copy of sound effects you use in the project to the sfx folder? And say you use the same sounds in project 2, do you copy them again into the project 2 sfx folder? So overtime there maybe multiple copies of sounds, overlays etc spread among projects? I’m new so it’s all new… Cheers
No you don't create any copies when importing video, audio, overlays or anything else. You simply create a link between the editing project and the content you are importing. If you move or delete that content from your computer, it will disappear from your editing project because that link will be broken.
Hey, im new to the channel and sports videos. Im getting a Sony A6400 w/18-135mm lens. Ill be filming basketball and football games what lens and frames would you recommend?
It highly depends on your budget. Your 18-135mm has a great zoom range for basketball but it's not the highest quality lens. For football I would recommend one those two lenses: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YUPzUrHcyXo.html
@@coachchrisbozeman It's better for football but it all depends on where you are filming from. It's fine filming from the stands but it will be way too tight if you try to film from the baseline for example.
I feel ya E, but I think everything happens for a reason. If you did captolize that opportunity. I may not have found your amazing channel. Its possible sports videography may have increased its value more the path your on.
