Buzz Buzz Buzz! Honestly it was one of the releases that I wasn't initially stoked for. But these bugs in hand are pretty dope, and it's also nice to see a variation of xenos that are bug-like without having hooved feet...I don't know why GW is obsessed with it lol.
@@BbMiniatures I think the hooves are GW's answer to a Rob Liefield type problem - toes are hard (see Hellions), claws can be complex to assemble - hooves are straightforward?
I want to try replicating this so bad, but I cannot find samurai green in stock anywhere in the US! Are there any Vallejo or Citadel colors close to the Samurai Green you’d recommend?!
For substitutes of Samauri Green, I'd look towards a blue/green mix. I believe AK has a paint in a similar name of Blue Green. Or for more colour fun, I'd try and mix something like a Deep Green + Ahirman blue to get something in that ballpark feel.
Cheers mate thank you! Hope you give it a try also either on a Vesbid, or give it on another xenos model. Hmmm a tyranid scheme based on this could be interesting!
Awesome work as usual! Tangential question, do you usually premix all your color mixtures into separate containers when you're army painting? Or do you just go by eye when you're mixing up from dark to light?
I can't think of anytime I've made custom mixes and batched them into my own bottles. I tend to work faster and enjoy mixing paint on the palette as I find it more flexible. Also does keep the army painting process from being too "robotic". I think if there is a base tone that isn't found in a single bottle of paint from any line that you can find and has to be mixed. That would be the time I would make a custom mixed bottle of paint so that you don't have to find it every session. But in terms of building highlights and or shadows, I find it's just easier to mix on the palette. Besides, its good practice for the eye and you will get to know your paints much better the more you mix :)
Hey, sorry I missed that initial detail of the base tone! That was a solid application of Misfits Green from Scale75. Hope that helps with the tutorial :)
Much love mate ty! It's an approach to blend both technical and practical knowledge of the model, lots of observations, plenty of failures, asking for feedback, and exercising my curiosity over and over again! It's much more than I can cram into a single comment, but if you're interested in further study with me I do have a Patreon with various tiers to which I can help build those skills with you :)
😂 cause that’s the best era of Wrestling man. lol but if you want to know, you could watch the video where I comment on the face specifically and the theme of the painting.
Subbed. Saw your white scar tutorial. Really like your painting style but more importantly your tone and how you explain. Like I'm sitting next to a old friend teaching me to paint for the first time
Much love man that's very kind of you to say and happy you enjoyed the tutorial. Hope you enjoy more down the pipeline and I also share more images and blog updates on my Patreon, both paid and free subscribers :)
A bit late to the party I can see. But I really like your video and the result. And I don't even play TK. Here's to hoping you do more of the old world stuff in the near future!
@@BbMiniatures that's true. I am thinking more and more about it. Until then I just keep watching you're ToW videos.and probably what ever else you come up with 😅🤟
Ohhh mate sorry I didn't see this notification! My standard brush is yes a Raphael 8404 no.1 BUT in this video I use an 8408 because I accidently bought that one lol. They feel very similar but I thought you should know.
Hey Bb, how do you get your paints in van? is there a local spot, or do you order online? I've heard things can get a little weird sometimes with customs when ordering scale75 and kimera. thanks for the vid, ill check the kickstarter
The local spot you can buy is at Magic Stronghold. But if you need to go online, I order it from Element Games. And thanks for checking the video homie ☺️🙏
Yea I’ve been hearing that much more recently and then giving an official statement came outa the blue for me. Hopefully they can fix that issue and get their paint in the hands that need em soon!
awesome work thanks for sharing! I live in a desert (Las Vegas) I have a wet pallet and I try to paint like this but the paint always dries on the tip of the brush unless I thin the paint way down. I mainly use a size 1 as well. It happens when i try to do detail work/edge highlighting. Any advice by chance? Thank you again for the amazing video!
Ohhh painting in that desert heat sounds tricky! You may want to try adding a bit of Acrylic retarder in place of some of the water used to thin our paints to help combat the drying. Or instead of thinning the paint more on the palette, you can instead leave your brush a bit more damp after rinsing it in your water cup. By dabbing the brush and not removing all the excess water in the brush, we can leave it more moist and therefor when you pick up paint off the palette, the moisture in your brush will help thin the paint within the brisles itself. You will take some juggling to find that sweet spot, but those ideas is where I would start. Hope that helps and I'm happy you enjoyed the tutorial! Hope to see more and consider checking out my Patreon for more videos! Happy Painting :)
Good to see a video that isnt slapping contrast over white/ grey primer and producing something as quick as possible. As a beginner the knowledge in this video helps with base techniques etc
Cheers mate I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial and found some knowledge in there to work from :) If you’re interested in expanding the essential toolbox of brush techniques. Consider my Foundation series found on my Patreon!
Too kind mate thank you ☺️🙏. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial and if you would like to help, I’d appreciate sharing it to anyone you think would find it helpful 🥰.
You mentioned how important it is to stay Neat. If one were to spray a coat of matte varnish over the Mustard Yellow (to protect the first few layers of paint), it'd be possible to wipe off any overpainted Green without touching the Yellow. Do you think that would wreck the finish for the cloth parts? Good vid btw
Where you could do a varnish to help protect it would work. But if you do mis-brush a stroke, I'd just rinse my brush and then wipe/scrub it damp on the miss stroke to remove it. Of course you will have to tend to that as soon as it happens before the acrylic paint fully dries. You will be surprised how easily you can do that. Thanks for watching as well and appreciate the question :)
I've noticed that there are some sharper shapes on the model. My tendency is to make them rounder either with a knife or sanding tool, especially when it's legs. Do you have a way of making it look better to have the sharper angle around the shin when the armor is already a very light color that makes edge highlights not work as well?
I could have just taken more time to make cleaner and more defined highlights with the brush. As for model modifications, I didn't want to meddle with that and as to do that for each soldier in an army. Always gotta choose your battles when it comes to tabletop stuff! And if thats your jam I'd say go for it.
