And at least you’ve worked out what you want to do with the next dress… What if you were to add a band at the bottom in one of the print colours so you could have an even longer sleeve? (Might be too late now…)
@@sewvintageglamwithunadoyle2775I'm so glad you think so! I recently took some pics of it with hair and makeup done, and that helped a lot. I'm feeling a lot better about it with some distance from the sewing. :p
I’m just going to say that this was a HIGHLY relatable vlog. I’ve been in the sewing doldrums lately, and totally get trying to push through to get to a project you’re excited about. The dress did turn out really cute, though! I think it still reads as Vintage. The colors feel right even if the pattern is a bit modern. And I can’t wait to see the secret project!
Oh, what you said the other day makes sense now. That’s such a bummer when a project you were looking forward to goes sideways on you. I loved seeing lace details on the slip, though! You have a great eye for detail.
Definitely looking forward to seeing the dress on. Although I totally get needing space. I think we’ve all had that pattern that winds up in the “never again” pile. 😂
A Samantha dress! Oh she’s going to look so cute in that! And as far as the mystery project, those colors scream Star Trek Medical/Science to me. But given that you’re a Star Wars gal, I’m probably way off.😂
I'm afraid the Meet Samantha dress is going to be on the back burner for a while. But I'm glad I have the fabric now, so I can start as soon as I'm ready!
OMG, your daughter’s baby Regency dress in the background! It’s so tiny compared to her now! I’m liking how many projects you have to hop to. It kind of leaves you on a cliffhanger each time!
At a glance, the red print reads Christmassy. In a pop Mid-century way. It will probably look different scaled up to the size of a human, but in a close up, it's a little off putting. Especially compared to the other prints. Lovely as always!
the whole pants odyssea shows me just why i don't buy clothes anymore :D and also why i don't do any adjustments on other peoples clothes :D it pains me just to watch you struggling with it ... i have to ask, was it all worth it?
For these pants, yes it was worth it! I wear them all the time now, and they're super comfortable. I totally hear you on doing alterations for people, though.
I like the idea of giving yourself more options while keeping the total the same! I think it’s a helpful way to stave off a certain kind of creative procrastination!
It will definitely take some pressure off! And I fully intend to continue sewing new projects next year after I've started dressing vintage. I'm sure I will still want more items in my wardrobe!
So having checked my trusty dual temperature thermometer it was 20 outside first thing in the morning - sounds reasonable, it's been that outside during the night recently here in Ireland, however we're back to the usual summer rain today - going up to 30 by lunchtime. Again sounds reasonable, it's been reaching/exceeding those temperatures in Europe this year as well. Please give dual temperatures, saying 70 and 90 is meaningless to anyone not in the US.
Our spring is 2 weeks in February. Then it's summer, followed by 2nd summer followed by satan's buttcrack. The dress turned out beautifully, and I think the insert lace on the sleeves looks pretty.
No, the monster hydrangea is about a foot taller than me and hasn't bloomed yet! 😅 These are my faithful Endless Summer hydrangeas, which bloomed about a month ago and have been slowly parching in the heat, poor things. You can see them at peak bloom in my Mother's Day Skirt video, though!
Glad you didn’t cut the clip with the birdsong and you disappearing down the path, was beautiful and peaceful. As was the whole video. Love the ending! You look absolutely gorgeous
I'm glad you enjoyed! I had to cut so much car noise out, I was really lucky to have that entire segment where not a single car drove by! So I had to leave it in.
I feel this video. My sewing seems to be large spans of nothing with whirlwinds of productivity. It’s definitely important that we all give ourselves a bit of grace, especially with things like full time jobs or raising two little people. ❤ Look forward to the next video!
A tip for recovery of such brittle papers. Increase the humidity in the room, allow time for the paper to hydrate from the air unfolding in stages. Use soft weights on flat areas allowing gravity and humidity to gradually open the deep folds. . If desired a humidifier in the room..... extreme methods > a fine mist spray into the air above the tissue. . Test methods on cheap tissue patterns. > some rubbing alcohol in the spray mist water. (I use this method) Or a few drops of glycerin in the spray mist water. (I have not yet tried this method , I think it entered my brain from a book binding video) . So far my > not extremely old < paper patterns have succumbed to humidity and alcohol water spray mist .
I USE MY TRAVEL KIT WHERE I CARRY.WHEN I GRAVEL N PUT SHOOMPOON TOOTH PAST N RUSH N OTHERS THINGS.BUT NOW I USE IT FOR MY ZDWING WHEN I TRAVEI OR GO TO CLASS WORKS GREAT LOVE THEM FOR ALL MY SEWING GERMS
Since 2025 is going to be the year of vintage, 2026 can be the year of Cottagecore Historical Vibes and you can swoosh to your heart’s content! And I’d love to see a tutorial. 😊
I know you said "and then pin the ruffle later" but I was listening to this like a pod cast while washing dishes, and my brain heard "and then pin the Ruffle-ator". And that image is so delightful and I laughed so hard, I had to re-watch the last 1/3 of the video. Thank you. You are a delight!!
Well done for persevering with your yearly sewing plans. I am trying something similar with everyday makes. I have lots of beautiful special occasion dresses but need everyday clothing I can wear to work. It's not as exciting to sew as a nice dress but it's what my wardrobe needs. I can't wait to see the dresses you make.
It's been challenging to change my mindset for creating, but it has definitely been paying off in sustained satisfaction with my daily clothing choices!
Love the idea of just pockets for sewing tools much neater than stitching pincushions ,scissor holders etc directly on to lining. The homemade tape is genius ( why didn’t I think of that😂) 🎉❤
Thanks! I did pockets mainly because I'm so indecisive, I didn't know exactly where I would want everything! This way I could rearrange the items later.
High waisted pants are awesome if you have a tummy. No more waist bands rolling under my belly. Actually once I realized this I bought granny panties too.
Love the vlog style. Thank you for showing the struggles too. It comforts me that my struggles are normal in the sewing the process :) I have also had second dress sizing issues. I've made calculated adjustments second time around based on the fit of the first garmentand it hasnt worked. I dont know why. I suspect witchcraft. lol
“Split-side pocket placket pants”… that’s a mouthful! 😆 Love the comic book bag storage idea. I’d never considered those! Still digging the vlog style videos, too. You seem to be settling in to chatting to the camera very well!
Yeah, they're great because they come in different sizes, too! And they're made for archival storage, so you don't have to worry about the paper degrading over time.
