It was a tragedy shutting Robin Hoods airport. There was loads of money spend on infrastructure to gain access to this airport. The question is, why close such a good airport over Leeds/bradford which is prone to high winds and fog due to its proximity
So much money was raised to get that Vulcan airworthy and to keep that Vulcan in the air, the very best example in the world and for it to just be sat outside is criminal!!!!!! Let alone the airport being closed, wtf is going on!!!!!
Somebody in this country needs to get an effing grip on things. In 2012 we had the London Olympics, HS2 promising much, the Vulcan flying in formation with the Red Arrows. Britain had PRIDE in itself. Now, what have we got. The people of this country MUST get bloody angry with the people who are responsible for the dismantling of this once great nation and hold them to account. Never mind the Tories jumping ship and skulking off to their next self serving gig, they should be dragged back to a Public Enquiry to answer for the treasonable manner they have treated the population of the UK. Long prison sentences should be waiting those miscreants, if only to act as a warning to any future chancers that this country's population will not stand idly by whilst these charlatans make and take us for fools. We used to be a respected, welcoming, friendly country that others admired and looked up to. Now we are a nasty, self serving arrogant piddling shadow of our former selves. We have to tolerate being lied to our faces repeatedly by these conmen, that MUST STOP NOW.
I did not realise XH558 had been abandoned like that---what a disgrace, the entire VTTS scheme was flawed, so many people worked incredibly hard for nothing to get the Vulcan flying again. Were as Chairman Dr Robert Fleming was paying himself a yearly wage / fee of £150,000, I believe a few others on the board of trustess were also taking a substantial salary. VTTS Vulcan To The Sky was a charity, it was meant to pay for it`s self from donations, but the board where taking so much of the funding for themselves. Once this became more widely know, funding dropped off dramaticly, and the entire thing floundered. I was of the believe that the aircraft was being stored in a hanger at Doncaster, but clearly that is not the case. The RAF should have been allowed and funded to step in and taken the aircraft and used it in some capacity like the BBMF, but it would need to be restored all over again after sitting so long. An RAF Historic flight would be a popular move I believe, but the CAA in the UK don`t want ex-military jets flying in the UK after what happened at Shoreham, despite the fact it was proved that accident was pilot error, and nothing to do with the actual aircraft.
