The main purpose for my channeI is demonstrate the way I make my art works. I make sculptures, mainly in wood but am venturing into clay and reproductions. It is not actually tutorials but just how I do things. At times I may venture into other interests I have and hopefully all will be enjoyable and maybe instructive!
As and amateur sculptor and former machinist apprentice, I really appreciate the help in maintaining accuracy when duplicating a shape. I've tried my hand at wood carving and had good results, but I didn't have a good way or duplicating something. Sculpting with polymer clays is pretty easy and low risk, so it would be great if I could just sculpt a shape then copy it in wood.
I found it! I would love to have it but the shipping cost is way too much ! I don’t understand it because i ship carvings all the time and its never this expensive! Thank you for your time and effort! I must say that I am very disappointed!! 0:37
Finally got the wood prices and they are high! Getting a solid piece that size cost more than I expected. For me to do a basswood rough out would be around $120 and butternut would be around $150. Plus shipping cost. Shipping to me was over $3 a board foot.
@@maloneartworks5912 thank you for letting me know. Yes i would like to do the butternut if you are still willing to do it. How can I get the final money amount to you ? Regards, James
@@JamesHeagle I have the rough out finished. I will post it on Etsy and send you a link if that will work. That way you can see it and know what the shipping and total cost will be.
It's been one delay after another. The wood is supposed to be on the way and the invoice in with the wood. Should be soon. I hope. I know it's taking longer than it should. Sorry
I have wood on the way. invoice will be in the box so, hopefully it will get here in the next few days. He said the butternut will have some worm holes more than likely but I was glad to find butternut that size. Thanks for your patience.
I have really enjoyed your videos!! I would love to find a santa roughout about the same size as the one that you are working on. Any idea on where i might find one? Regards, Jim Heagle, Braselton Georgia
Hey brother. Great work. I carve with a knife, I have done a few wood spirit type projects with so so results. I have been contemplating getting a set of gouges. Any suggestions? I mainly carve folk art pieces out of basswood but looking to branch out some. Thanks for the video. I will check out you work
@@maloneartworks5912 thanks for your reply. I have been working on a little farmer this evening. He might be a moonshiner, I don’t know yet. I will take a look at these brands
I’m having some weird grain issues on a carving I’m doing at the moment. One side the grain runs down and on the other side of the face I’ve to go left.. it’s been a frustrating carve tbh 😂
Beautiful Piece! I'm going to mention this video (and your channel) in the next episode of Wood Carving Weekly. Not sure I understand how the pointer system works, how would you describe it?
It has an adjustable pointer that is mounted on a vertical rod. The rod is mounted in a block of wood that has 2 short dowels on its side. I make an identical base for the clay and the carving blank, with 2 holes drilled in it to match the dowels on the base pointer. The pointer is adjusted to a point on the clay (like the chin), then moved to the carving blank so I can carve down to that point of the chin on the blank. Hope that helps>
