I installed some Aquarian heads on mine. I use a regular Texture Coated on the snare, Modern Vintage 2 (2 ply) on the toms, and a clear Super Kick 1 on the bass drum. Even with a Super Kick and a he in the front head, it's still way too boomy. I'm going to either put more muffling in the bass drum, and/or try Aquarian Impact 2 or Modern Vintage SK2 with a Regulator on the front. Possibly with a center hole... Great review and demo. Thank you SO much!
@@bososz You have a great hardware store. I do not . I have Home Depot, Tractor Supply , Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware, and all the auto repair part stores, and they do not carry small metric fasteners, at all. Just the random socket head cap scews of the wrong length if the tray isn't already empty.😭
I have the 950 same shape as the 1100 it works great with higher wind it is easier to control its lift I used it with a small 4.7 wave sail ok. I am 210 pounds. I have started using true foiling sails sport sail with some large sleeves and 2cambers better wind range and control.
@@comment8767 I have only been out on it three times. The first two times were very light wind and using it to assist Wingfoiling. The third time out I had no wing and was just trying to foil on it or pump foil. I need to get out more with it. It’s definitely a bonus for Wingfoiling. It was pretty cool working with the app they have and trying different front wing sizes in settings. Still need a few more hours out there playing with that. I’m hoping to get a combination of Wingfoiling and zero wind pump foiling experience out of it. Feels like it will be the ticket, but, I need to get out on it a fair amount more. By the way, I have the Mac’s and it has plenty of torque to get me going. I am 230 pounds, for reference.
This didn’t work so well, but not because I couldn’t reach it. The problem is wearing it on the leading hand. I have solution two that I am going to try next time out.
Yknow I ordered this kit to be an in home practice kit, and was wondering if I would need those silent drumheads and cymbals, but this definitely seems like this would work pretty fine in a secluded room or attic with the way you got it set up. The way I can hear your sticks at the same time as the drums is telling that the muffling works LOL Nice! Still musical sounding too, compared to those silent heads. Have you tried those at all or have opinions on them? Lastly, what did you use to hold all those cymbals? Looks like 1 stand with a bunch of arms on it :) Thanks for the video Greg, best of luck with your drummin bass player Greg !!!
I am really enjoying this kit. It’s right next to my work desk, takes up so little space, so I can easily just jump on it for a few minutes here and there without a lot of hassle.
The 1550 leviathan is huge. They make a 1750, but I think it would have too much drag. Gong also makes some large foils. You should check them out too.
@@gregstrickland9667 I’m 215lbs. Winds vary from 14mph to 30 mph. I’m not focused on super light winds at this point since that would likely require a dw board. I’m riding the 140L 6’3 140L Fanatic Sky Wing. I’m using an XXL Gong X-Over foil. I also have a phantasm wing setup that I bought for kitefoiling (haven’t learned that yet). I was considering using a Sabfoil front wing on the phantasm setup if it made sense. I’m also open to the phantasm wings.

Why are these Gong boards so much less expensive than the competition? Presumably they are all made in China, so how are these 1/2 the price of some other known quality boards? I worry that it speaks to the quality of materials or construction. ???
I had my doubts too. I’m not exactly sure where they are made but they ship out of their facility in France. So far, I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the board, it’s the best 800 bucks I’ve invested so far. My fanatic Board cost about twice that and I don’t think the quality is really any better. Actually I think the mass base on the gong board is a lot beefier. That’s my experience so far. You could check around with others, but I think a lot of people are pretty happy with the gong stuff, especially the boards.
@@gregstrickland9667 that's what I see too, just that old "if it sounds too good".... ;) The Fanatic was one of the ones I was considering. Im also 230lbs, so all relevant to me. And LIGHT wind on our inland lakes. No issues with the overseas delivery I take it?
Here’s a video of it in action. I’m on an 1150 Sabfoil (1580sqcm) and a 6M F1 Strike. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MHDcuqOu0zI.htmlsi=f4lMzUWCvQaJ4Br8
My Apple watchband broke two days before and I missed out on getting any data. I think it’s somewhere around 18 so far, but there may be more to be had. I have a 999 and the 1150 is much faster.
What made you decide the SAB foil was a better choice than the Gong Sirus front foils, which also seem to have good lift and aspect ratio? Also, where did you order from? Directly from Gong?
The big gong foils weren’t available last summer. I would definitely consider them. Ask around. I’m really happy with the quality of the board. They ship directly from the manufacturing plant in France. You buy directly from them. It was easy and fast. It shipped from France via DHL in less than a week.
Nice! Agreed you could have saved it but sometimes the legs or shoulders need a break! I've been Efoiling the past 2 summers after finding learning winging AND foiling in our ultra light winds (inland lakes ) very uh, "challenging" (I couldn't do it). Now I can foil AND have an 8.0 wing for our 10mph max winds in the summer, i'm hopeful to be there this summer.
Check out my video on foiling in less than 10mph wind. I’m in the same situation here in seattle. I can get going with a massive Sabfoil 1550 pumping foil and a 6M. That’s a “big ask” of a foil… but it gets it done while others are on the beach…. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sz0Gvt2y3oY.htmlsi=QNGbmFBD7Bf_8krA
Did I see you in Playa del Carmen last week? I just came back from a session. It was really good wind that day... we talked a little bit about your inflatable board for travelling.
I’m on the hunt for the first foil board and the Hipe Cruzader keeps coming up. I know I know..I ough to get a big fat solid board and then sell it, but the thing is I am aiming for light wind winging simply because thats’s what I’ve got to work with most of the time. Training on my SUP with a centerboard has really been great fun and i have tackled a variety of conditions. I can balance in chop just fine, so the Hipe Cruzader may just work. Budget is a factor.
You can’t beat the budget factor. Flat water will make or break learning on this board.. that along with some wind. It is definitely hard to stand up on and almost impossible without some wind. You’ll see from this video that I only stand up if there is some wind to help provide support balance. A lot of people learning try to go out in little or no wind. You should set a minimum of about 10mph to even try. A good gauge for me is whether or not the wind will keep the wing supported and not touch the ground. You can do this from the beach. If the wing floats, you have enough… if it doesn’t, don’t try to go out. You’ll burn energy and not really learn a lot. How much do you weigh? Choosing the right foil and wing size will make or break your learning too. I can you give you some advice in that if you’d like.
@@gregstrickland9667 Thanks. I have all the gear except the board. Checking in at 80kg. Unfortunately I have to sell some gear in order to be able to buy a board. The Naish S27 is the lowest price and best value so far. I WAS looking at a very inexpensive Gong inflatable but the trail went cold….
@@joshuasepe5598 they sell th direct from the factory. The 7’-6” would be perfect. www.gong-galaxy.com/en/product/gong-foil-board-cruzader-fsp-pro-2023/
Hi Greg, really great content in your videos. I too want to get a Gong Cruzader. Any distributors in the US ? I could only see prices in Euros with high shipping cost
They direct ship from their manufacturing family in France. It took 3 days to ship to Seattle, Wa. I think you’ll see the prices in US dollars when you put it in a “shopping cart”. I believe it was around $800 total w shipping.
At 85 kg, I'm thinking about buying the 7'6" HIPE Cruzader. Think that's the right size for me? Looks like you're using the unstrapped version. Any thoughts between the strapped and unstrapped versions?
Hi Greg, i have the same equipment. How do you exactly manage the gybe with the Leviathan 1550. Do you have a tipp for me? Sometimes I feel the foil is on it´s own way... Thanks Bernhard
Bernhard, I too am having difficulty in jibing this setup. I'm thinking about making a video on the challenges for any heavy rider to pull off a low speed jibe. The 1550 has huge lift but a limited top end speed, I top out at about 11mph with it. This just isn't quite enough for me to do much more than a 3/4 jibe before falling off of foil, I would be interested in a pole of 200+ riders that are successfully completing jibes with board speeds under 10 mph. For now I'm enjoying foiling in low wind and step jibing.
Greg, i wanred to ask. Do you have any experience with Gong Sirus. 156 sirrus vs 1550 leviathan, or 135 sirus vs 1350 leviathan? I want to buy a set for flat water pumping and use it for lightwind and i was wondering if there is a big difference between those 2. I already have few foils from Gong, but I see most people on Leviathan. I like gong because its much less $. However is Leviathan would be much better, id switch. Its just so hard since i have no way to test either one. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.
You should do more investigation on the foil set up. I went with the leviathan because it was the only thing available at the time. Gong makes some pretty equipment for the price.
They offer both. I went with the inflatable for travel. I assume the hard board gets up a little quicker due to stiffness, but I can easily pack the inflatable with 2 wings and a foil in the bag they supply, so it’s the clear winner for me.
Great, thanks for the reply and the video. I am still deciding between 7'6" and 7eleven, and may regret going with 7six strapless for less weight and ease of transportation. I see kites in the video, must have been enough.. - I kited in Cancun at Moon palace hotel, wonder where this is ;-) good vacation
