Very UNPOLISHED. But excellent. You can tell the ‘stage training’ from the record company came in during 1982. Simon stopped bouncing around (awesome), and each of them started to LOOK like a professional band. The polished videos changed everything.
I REMEMBER seeing a street interview in England right around the time their first album came out. They were basically NO ONE at this point, except in the local clubs (Rum Runners). A local reporter just happened to see them walking down a sidewalk and asked for an interview. They said yes. During the interview the reporter asked about their ‘politics’ and how they felt about the current ‘dire economy’ in the UK - this WAS a time coming right behind the 60’ & 70’s, and as bad politically as the world is now. Simon just looked confused and said, “ We don’t care about politics. We just want people to have FUN!” AND THIS IS WHAT MADE THE 80’s SO GREAT!! I feel sorry for anyone who wasn’t in HS during this era. It was magical!! And they are STILL as relevant today.
