Hello Tom, I know your video went up a few years ago, but I’m wondering if you know (knew) a man by the name of Jonathan Swift. Several years ago I purchased consecutive serial numbered Selmer Series 9’s Bb/A clarinets. They’ve been refurbished and actually I don’t play them much so they’re for sale, but I’ve often wondered about Mr. Swift. I believe he played in the symphony there. Thanks & great video!
This excerpt was challenging for me because it’s fast and also has ALOT of notes, like it’s absurd the amount of notes there is on the page when you look at the section this is played at.
Lovely seeing this. A big nostalgia trip for this very lucky Brit. I was there in 1988, on the Composition program….so many happy memories, above all making dinner for and hanging with Lennie Bernstein. But it was VERY hot and humid!
We need the full video more than ever now that Yunchan has decided not to play Rach 3 anymore at least for a few years, he said in a TV interview … who knows , that may be a very LONG time. Yunchan knows what he wants and will follow his heart. All I can do is support him, but at the same time can’t promise I won’t be mourning the halt of Rach 3. Wish to have seen it live 😢 Yunchan, please stay healthy and go at your own pace.
This is a great performance. Including and beyond this piece, you can watch Rimsky-Korsakov's entire opera-ballet "Mlada" at this URL: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k4_4JVJa2rE.htmlsi=4ZYlAsicmZfy4NNz
Brava! Fei shang hao! Now I need another life to learn this wonderful instrument... cannot imagine playing the same note and it sounding different according to the position of the pedal! Your playing is also so beautiful to watch, the way you prepare each movement and each note's color. (Cellist here)
What a beautiful, magnificent, piece of music. It communicates, in the most direct and evocative way, the idea, "Pay attention -- somebody IMPORTANT is approaching." And it does it with great musical craftsmanship. I can hear this piece again and again and it never gets old.
It is going to take a very serious ensemble with maybe better technology to even try to produce a better recorded example of these pieces than what you guys achieved with these recordings.... They are literally flawless from what I hear. No one is perfect, but I just can't pick out any flaws.
