Music Therapy Tales was founded by Dr. Kathleen M. Howland, a professor and certified practitioner of music therapy. She started the website in late 2015 in homage to the late Dr. Oliver Sacks, whose stories, she said, "helped us understand disabilities and abilities. Those abilities tended to be musical, and he helped us look through the lens of neurology." Content began to be loaded in earnest onto this RU-vid channel, and thence on onto the site, in early 2016, including video interviews with music therapists and some testimonies of patients as well. Whether you're a caregiver, a patient, a music therapist, a physician, a student considering a career in music therapy, or just an interested viewer, welcome! You're encouraged to join the conversation about the real medical and neurological benefits of music therapy.

I've been facilitating my Music as Therapy sessions for nearly 30 years and have given talks on the Power and actual 'Connection' music makes with folks, challenged on a vast array of levels. Many people completely trashed my thoughts and claims on this, calling me a Quack and far worse. Yet, at nearly 70 years young, I am still amazed at the powerful affect and causality Music can have on people seemingly completely lost to the world. People who have had strokes and their ability to speak is often severely affected. Yet, hold their hands (Touch in the appropriate setting is also a Massive contributor) and then sing a song they know and be astounded by the results. People often singing along and even for a few b brief seconds following the end, say something. The same with Parkinson's and Dementia.

You're such a beautiful person. Thank you. I have loved my career in music therapy. Best job I've ever had . I have used music to help increase my neuro plasticity. Also writing with both hands at the same time. Then reversing the words. Turning one upside-down writing it backwards. With the other hand writing it, the correct way. I just continue from there and swap things. Dementia runs in my family. So I have been doing my best to turbocharge my brain since I was a kid. Grow new neural pathways. Increase certain parts of your brain size. Brilliant. Would love to have a pet scan or fmri❤️

My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease 7 years ago, almost when all hope was lost due to several failed attempts in making her healthy. My desire to see her permanently free drives me into searching the internet for possible solutions which led me to a video about Alzheimer’s disease on RU-vid, I met with a comment on how an herbal doctor used herbs to cured someone of Alzheimer's Dementia. I collected the herbal doctor's contact and reached out to him, we talked about it and he asked few questions about her physical challenges which I answered, and then he prepared the herbal medicine and sent them to me here in Tennessee with prescriptions on how to use attached, I ensured my mom took the herbal medicine accordingly and in 3 weeks of using this medication, we began to see improvement in her health and now, I am so glad to share this testimony that after 8 months, my mom is permanently healed of this horrible disease called Alzheimer, and now she is living her best life. Contact Dr. Rohan via dr.rohanronjohn@gmail.com you will come back for your testimony..

This is very interesting. It reminds me of Alive Inside, the documentary about the restoration of memory loss and sense of self through music.

Yes… Alive Inside was a great project and program but NOT the same as co-responsive LIVE interaction with a skilled clinician. They provide pre-programmed iPods - A therapist would monitor music response, engage and encourage stories and singing, and watch for adverse or traumatic responses that may come up with the music memories. Again- the movie brought awareness to the power of music with these elders but when possible, I would always advocate for interactive music experiences with a skilled professional vs. isolating music with headphones and iPods.

Hey Ryan! I was wondering if you know the answer to a couple of questions I have. I'm from Australia, and looking into Music Therapy, not just here but overseas as well. I've come across Colorado State University, who offer everything online except placement obviously. Would it be possible to do Placement in Australia and have it count towards the course? Do you know if the USA has a system like HECS (Higher Education Commonwealth Scheme) where your fees can been covered by the government and paid back when your income reaches a certain level, or do the course fees have to be paid upfront or in installments for international students? Also, I wanted to know if I was able to gain a qualification in the USA, if it would be valid in Australia, and if this applies also to a Board Certified Music Therapist or someone who is not board certified bty has completed the qualification. So many questions - sorry about that! Would you happen to know the answers to any of the above?

Am I looking at here the same Susan Davis Warren who sang, "Keep the Memory in Your Heart" in tribute to Wendy Lincoln? If so, then I am your newest fan! Wendy is the person I have chosen to learn about this year by random selection from Syracuse students who lost their lives on 103. No, I am not from Syracuse. Just someone from afar who takes part in looking back and acting forward, and I pick a new one of the Syracuse kids each year to focus on. I would love to receive a response from you should you desire to reply here. Oh.. PS: Whose signature is that on your Yamaha??
@MusicRx65
@MusicRx65 6 лет назад
FromMyEyesToYours oh, my! I am so sorry I am only just seeing this now.... yes, I was a friend of Wendy’s from North Adams. The signature is James Taylor. :) I wrote the song as a tribute to Wendy after the PamAm flight tragedy.
