The Marine Band is America's oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as "The President's Own" since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band's mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
Interesting choice for the Marine Band! (At the premiere in London, the Brits were so befuddled by this piece that they laughed at it.) Well, it is after all a kind of Requiem (for Debussy), so it makes sense from that angle, I think, for Marines to play it. Very nicely performed. One of my all-time favorite pieces since performing it (Horn II) in Berkeley about 75 years ago.
To this very day, I can’t listen to the “Liberty Bell March” without the announcer hollering “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and the giant human foot squishing some poor schmoe.
Wow, what a performance, the dynamics are beyond the norm for sure and the precision of the playing and the best intonation I heard from the band with this conductor.
I'm Clifton Williams' youngest daughter, Helen, and on behalf of the family, I thank everyone who still appreciates his work and has fond memories of performing.❤
This is Helen Williams and I'm Clifton Williams' youngest daughter. I would like to thank these musicians and all of you who have made glowing comments. It is so wonderful to see that his music is still appreciated. Many heartfelt thanks.❤
🙋 Brilliant! I've watched this performance a thousand times and it sends chills down my spine every single time. I adore Stephen Colbert, but I really miss Dave! 😊
Beautifully played but how boring to watch them play. It’s like they were frozen in their chairs. This is supposed to be fun to play this music not to just “play the music” Wow no fun at all
I played this in 9th grade and it’s weird hearing it played so well balanced and on point. Those horns did a great job with all their cool little melodies. Edit: They played this on my birthday hell yea!
