The pops on this microphone make the talk almost unlistenable. 😢 Was looking forward to this presentation but P! B! P! P! 🙉 (note: might just be me, I'm particularly sensitive to noise. ... 🙃)
Mi gran mentora, mi admiración y respeto a su labor como entrenadora. Norma Ortiz Siempre agradecida por haber compartido conmigo su conocimiento y experiencia ❤
"We're very good at making distinctions and drawing boundaries, but we've lost the ability to see connections, to establish relations, to see that the sum of the whole is more than the sum of its parts... This relational way of being in the world, young children, I think, in a natural way have. They see the world as how it unfolds in front of them using all the senses through play and discovery. In some ways they are better at seeing in a holistic way than than we are. We lose that ability. The more time we spend in school and university the more we lose that ability...not to dismiss it, but we need to balance it more." Arjen Wals I couldn't agree more. We need to live, learn and grow within natural systems to understand and belong within them.
My son was diagnosed with autism and I just learned that there is a Montessori school in my location! I have the Montessori preschool app and my son loves it so much! I am highly considering Montessori elementary instead of public school. Autism is very broad but I know that those with it are very intelligent beings and I strongly believe they learn better by themselves with sensory stimulation from my own personal witness and not being shoved the same old curriculum and given labels anyways. Much love and respect ❤❤❤
OK to make mystake not embarrassed a child.... it's OK in school to try untill you do it right because you can do it in school not in real world : a lot of think that you have in the Harry Potter 'saga! Let's encourage our children to read J.K. Rowling's books, they are a lot of idea in commun with Montessory 's idea!
I love the vision of the Montessori method about observation, a scientific observation that all of medics and scientists have lost! What a shame! Thank you very much at all the participents of this vidéo!
Thank you so much for this beautiful and inspiring video. One to share with my students! Carolina, I am also so enjoying the series of books you have put together ...Maria Montessori Writes to Her Grandchildren Letters from India 1939 - 1946 with Montessori-Pierson Publishing, for example. So grateful!!! 💖
#Yes Help me to do it myself! That is really the essence of Montessori education. I’m Carolina Montessori, one of Maria Montessori’s Great Granddaughters. She was born in 1870 in Chiaravalle, Italy. She was the only child of Alessandro Montessori and Renilde Stoppani. Her mother was an elementary teacher, but of course stopped working when she married, and probably wanted her daughter to do all the things that she had not been able to do. Aged 20, Maria Montessori wanted to become a doctor and went to the university to talk to the dean. He said, “you can’t study medicine.” “Women don’t do that,” and said: “well, I know that I shall be a doctor.” When she was 26 years old, she got her degree. She was the first woman to finish her studies at the University of Rome, medical studies. She was also one the earliest campaigners for equal rights for women. At 26 she was invited to speak at the first International Women’s Congress in Berlin. She pleaded for equal pay for women, which was very extraordinary in those days. She was very eloquent, and she could speak very convincingly. Maria Montessori started working in hospitals in Rome. She was interested in the way the mind worked. She was particularly interested in the psychiatric department. She found that there were children, they were there locked up in a big ward. The nurse said: “Oh, God they eat crumbs from the floor.” “They have no manners,” and Maria Montessori said: “No, they have nothing to do.” “They need sensory stimulation.” Together with Giuseppe Montesano and other psychiatrists she began to work with these children. These children performed sometimes better than the children who had a regular traditional education. In 1906 she was invited to work with children in some of the poorest parts of Rome. In 1906 she opened her first Children’s House: ‘Casa Dei Bambini’ I think she thought she was onto something great. It was so exceptional what these children could do. These children were capable of great self-discipline, order, care for one another, care for themselves, and also, they were very eager to learn. She really saw a new kind of child. The Montessori approach is based on providing a prepared environment for children. So made to measure where they can learn by themselves with very little guidance from the teachers. Montessori lived through world wars and saw the connection between peace and education early on. She saw how children suffered in those in the traditional kind of schools. At that time children were seen as small adults, so they had to behave as adults, and of course they weren’t. The whole idea of social justice and human rights, it’s ingrained in her method, respect for each other, respect for nature, respect for the universe, for our world. It’s all in there. The Montessori Approach was a huge success in Italy and soon other parts of the world wanted to know about her work. She received many many honors and awards, but of course the most honorable thing is that she was nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize. Maria Montessori uncovered the universality of human development - work which is supported by neuroscientific research today. Today, Montessori education is offered in more than 145 countries across the world. Comment #Yes and share if you agree Maria Montessori, was a true inspiration.
