The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA) comprises nearly 400 municipal and campus law enforcement executives in the Commonwealth.
In an effort to consistently improve law enforcement's identity, the MCOPA proudly supports its officers across the state, by highlighting their call to duty.
Part of that mission includes a web series, #WhyWeServe, featuring gripping and inspirational stories, from overcoming personal tragedy, to those impacting communities.
#WhyWeServe is dedicated to the men and women across this nation, who show courage, integrity, honor, and dedicate themselves to public service.

It is highly commendable to learn about your inspiring way of converting a huge negative energy to an immense positive energy. May God bless your beloved father, you, and your family, including your child (ren).
I am sorry for the loss of your father. This was very wrong. You are a role model and an inspiration of doing something good with the bad hand you were dealt.
Wow. Thank you for embracing vulnerability and sharing this story with all of us. The way you have chosen to honor your amazing father throughout your life is incredible and inspirational. Thank you for your service and dedication to him and especially to our community. It’s nice to get to know who our police officers are at their core. Here’s to your dad up in heaven and here’s to making a difference. ❤️❤️❤️
How many dirty/brutal cops did he actually help prosecute rather than protect? Otherwise this is just a story about a guy joining forces with same men that got away with murdering his father
Chief Phil Tavares could not be a stronger role model for every man that walks this earth. And it's not just the story. You would say the same if you spent 5 minutes with him.
