I just replaced a g54 transmission in a 4x4 it isn't very fun working on the ground under the truck. It all went okay besides the 35 years worth of grease, oil and dirt build up. Lol
Holy fuck it's hard to listen to this podcast sometimes. The stuttering is equivalent to trying to have Michael j Fox write a sentence on paper. For fucks sake learn how to not interrupt during an interview with that horrible stutter .
Great video. I have a 5 speed as well. Do you just need the taco box or are there other parts needed to mate all this together? Do you have a parts list? I’ve been reading up on the forums, but some of the information is confusing.
I have looked at your video carefully and studied the pictures on the Marlin Crawler website and am wondering how you keep oil from running out the front and back shafts of the Taco Box. Are there any gaskets or seals between the transfer case and taco box or transmission and taco box? Looks like a lot of open bearings in the pictures which mean oil leaks. Did you use sealer between the various components?
ENGINEER125 it not explained very well by MC and I guess I failed to explain it as well, partly because I didn’t originally address it. Yes you need to silicone both ends of the TB, I have since the install developed a leak and need to separate everything and seal it up. Good catch and thanks for bringing it up.
palaciosivan100 when I swapped in the 5 speed I swapped to a J shift case, I retained the push button shift knob because that is how I control the axle disconnect.
palaciosivan100 I’ll have to do a little research on that, I got the trans and T-case as a unit out of a first gen Tacoma and have honestly never looked into it.
Thanks for checking out the video. The main T-case is all stock, the Taco Box is the Ultimate, means it has the 4.1s. I love the setup, the gearing in the Taco Box is all I will ever need in this application 👍.
Hey thanks for sharing. Did the tacobox cause any difference in daily driving it. I just installed a used set into my 1998 Tacoma and i have a vibration that I can’t find now but I feel it’s from the transfercases. Pinion angles are great so I don’t think it’s that
Lance Cowen no difference at all with drive ability, I have a slight vibration as well but I’m pretty sure mine is driveshaft related, the old 4runner has always had vibrations so I just kinda ignore it, I also don’t drive it a lot.
Not sure if this will give you any ideas, Let me know if you have any questions. Rob Knasel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0iXIwjr0zZE.html
genisis53 sorry for the late reply, thanks for checking out the channel. The wheels are a cheap wheel from National Tire and Wheel, I believe the brand is MB if I remember correctly, I picked them up used.
@@toyotatrucksandtrailspodcast it was actually his transfer case that popped out of low range, which is why he couldn't get it back in. He definitely learned his lesson about wearing the entire harness after that. They had been in Moab for a day when thus happened. He was able to replace the radiator and use a hi-lift to get the windshield frame back in place enough for a new windshield, and only lose a day thankfully. They're GA boys, so it was a big blow on the first day of wheeling after planning for the better part of a year or so. These guys are a very careful group, and Ted will even tell you this was just one of those obstacles that most people don't think twice about being a difficult and dangerous obstacle, but that is not a good excuse and he should have had his harness on.
I don't know if you guys monitor the RU-vid comments, but I was wondering if you guys could do a segment or two on your podcast geared towards the people who are just getting into offroading with the newer generation of toyotas like the 2016+ Tacomas and 4runners. Just things like what kind of modifications, equipment, advice, etc. that would be helpful to the newer group of people in the newer trucks
Had the same line happen to me and decided to pull cable at the same spot. Once you are too far off to the passenger side at the bottom its tough to recover from. Good choice to pull cable. Looked sketchy had you backed it up.
