Singapore's urban design principles have a lot of merit, but the solution is not in high density. If we continue down the path to 70% urbanization, there is no future. You wanna make cities more sustainable? Sure! But don't conflict that premise with cities being the sustainable alternative. Building taller is not sustainable, high density is not the solution. Cities are ecological dead zones, and the health of people and the planet depend on our co-existence with more than, other humans. The perfect example are the buildings on 57th Street, "billionaire's row" - nobody wants to live there. We cannot cut ourselves off from planetary resources and hide in skyscrapers built to throw a curtain on it. We have to work closer with source: energy, food, materials, minerals, water etc. We as in people, not the machines we instruct with a click pillaging land halfway across the world to power this technologically intensive dystopian future.

Les gave me my very first real job. I was probably 19 years old and he hired me as a Receptionist at SHCR, I believe the address was 211 E 46th Street in NYC. He was such a wonderful man and boss along with Joy his wife's sister. They took me to their home one weekend to teach me how to ice skate on the Lake. I believe it was in Connecticut. All I can remember is what a great man he was and the Engineers whom he hired were smart and young. I sort of remember his partner, I think his name was Bob or Robert? Simply a great group of people. Unfortunately I left and moved to Los Angeles where I've been living all my life. When I arrived in LA my first job there was working in the Trade Centers in Century City in which I believe Les was also instrumental in designing. I worked on the 19th floor in the Trade Centers in LA and never knew he was also responsible for their design until 911. I just read this story about his passing... RIP Les & thank you for everything!
