As a UX Designer who will be starting his first major job at a major organization soon, where I probably will be one of the few UX designers there - that last part of the interview was SO crucial! Thanks for this folks!
I hope that people will unite and protest against Uber, which turns workers into beggars

What did you guys want him to say ? "yeah higher ups got upset that snapchat didn't accept our offer, now we want to copy everything they're doing and bury them to the ground" of course he'll give you the usual bullshit.
I can resonate with getting bored with things and allowing myself to get deep into a breadth of things. The way he chose the design because he couldn't "work," but it is a way to create value and get hired in a global economy; he speaks to my persona and my personal journey; much respect for Bobby and Jared for hosting this. And I love the book great leaders ask great questions.
It's super cool (and funny) that I found out about all these episodes exactly 5 years later. Super fun watching them, still super relevant nowadays, to understand from where we come and what was going on back then. Great stuff.
Why are people over complicating hiring? If you need to conduct a group session on why you are hiring someone then you probably shouldn't be hiring anyone. With this system you are hyper-typecasting a role for a very specific agenda, which is destined to change over the course of a year, and should evolve as industries, trends, software, work environments change anyway. The evidence is in their professional portfolio and reference contacts. If you can't call their previous or current employer then the candidate is sneaking around behind their back and will do the same to you. If they don't keep a work portfolio then they are not intensely passionate about presenting their body of work in an organized storyline, and are asking for you to take a chance. It's that simple. And if you can't get a good sense if the candidate will be a good fit with your company in one face-to-face interview (Including virtual face-to-face), then you need to work on your "people skills" as an employer.
