I’m sorry I just got to be honest with you guys. I think the pro neo series beats the VB series hands-down. I’m assuming, for these lightweight cabs , you veered away from the eminence speakers to save on cost.
"Was anyone using ten-inch speakers for bass at that time?" "No, I don't think so." Well, yes. Traynor was selling 130-watt bass amps with six ten-inch speakers before the SVT came along. There were a lot of them in the Northeast US but I don't think that they penetrated very far into the country. Somebody at Ampeg pretty much had to know about them.
I have acquired a basket case B-18-N head unit and the only things that are good are thankfully the power and output transformer. The chassis was very rusty and the controls were broken. I have worked with vacuum tube amplifiers for over twenty-five years, so I have decided to rebuild this wonderful amplifier.
I'm looking for this type of amp to play in my small living room. Is the power not too strong so as not to disturb the neighbors ? I'm hesitating with a Vox Super Beetle Bass
Great episode some very useful information. You guys should do a show with Alejandra Villarreal of The Warning and their sound guy. Her live bass tone is fantastic and sits beautifully between the drums and guitar.
The only issue with this amp is the Scrambler section is beyond useless and almost inaudible/tone sucking, unless you turn the pad -15db switch on then you can hear it.
I'm a guitar player. In 1973 I got my Ampeg VT-40. I would have liked to hear more about Ampeg guitar amps. From 1969 and throught the 1970s, The Stones were all about Ampeg, with some Fender Twin in the studio. Ampeg was the staple of their guitar sound! And The Stones are known such a golden guitar sound. Hey, let's hear more about Ampeg as a guitar amp. I have my VT-40, two V-2 heads, and my VT-22 was stolen, a pox on the thief.
