Great video. Tried this with my calculator but I must've broken the display. It still works but it can only display a few items. If I try to type in a large number, it gets dimmer and dimmer until I can't see it. This also means that I can't see pages like the setup or mode. Bummer Edit: Giving everything inside a good wipe with a dry tissue seems to have helped. The problem is still there, letters get a bit dim in the MODE page for example. But at least I can read them, and the calculator is usable now for my purposes.
If display getting dimmer, most probably it will solve when replacing the battery. Make sure battry connected wires are properly connected and then replace
@@howtodo22 Thanks for the reply. Replacing the battery did not help. Nothing wrong with the connections either. It's like the screen can only display a limited number of pixels
i just removed the reflective film and placed the metal piece. though the metal piece is itself colored in silver i guess no need to add anything. Its working fine. thank you.....
Brother, my fx 991ES plus calculator is working well but display is visible only when it is exposed to the bulb light. Normally display is not visible, What is the problem?
Had been facing the same problem alike, I was fixing it and used surgical spirit (80% Isopropyl alcohol) in excess. And for the reflective film used junk wrappers 😅. After I assemble it. Couldn't turn ON. Get disappointed and ordered new one that cost a thousand on Amazon online shopping. After a few hours, out of curiousity I was trying it for the last time and astonishingly it works. Could have been due to gradual drying of the wet LCD display.
Hey do i have the same problem my lcd looks like its leaking from the top the calculator looks like the thumbnail for this video if i replace reflective film will it look good again
Very smart hack. I’m just wondering if we can do away with the silvery film altogether. I can see the numbers just fine after the silvery film was removed in the video..
Yes. The purpose is to use silver paper to reflect the background light through the display. That's how we can see the digits. Reflective surface removal means light gets low and hard to see the numbers. Still displays fine. But hard to see.
Hi! I’ve used the polarize film but as it shows on the LCD, the first 3 numbers was showing/clear but when i try to input another numbers, it fades. I have not yet replaced the battery and i just saw the comment to use reflector rather than the polarize film. Is it because of the battery or the film that i have inserted which shows fading numbers in my sci-cal. Thanks!
It was a mistake that I have saying the polarize film. Its the reflecter. Before that try replacing the battery. Digit fading can be done because of bad battery.
usb port transfer 5v. When the wires are long, their resistance is increasing. So in the end the 5v get reduced. If you need that much long extension, make sure to use thick wires( gauge) and also not so long. Check the soldered connections also.
