Yours isn't the first video I've seen where people get their sticks entangled with the gate whilst filming. Limestone pavement in the Westmorland Dales up through Odendale past Orton Astby etc as you head towards Kirkby Stephen although you probably already know that now lol Sadly the Westmorland Dales get overshadowed by the Yorkshire Dales, even more so now they've been put into the YD National Park. Might as well be the Dales National Park now. Great set of videos really enjoyed them, also nice to hear what others think of the area on my doorstep. Glad you enjoyed your stay in Shap, lots of C2C walkers stop overnight in the village..
@@petercresswell5402 A couple of my old workmates messaged me and explained the Limestone Pavement, your never too old to learn something new! I loved my stay in Shap as well even though it wasn’t on my original itinerary. Thank you for watching and stay safe.
Really enjoyed the videos, hoping to do this route in a couple of weeks, I was wondering about water and filtering but had decided not to due to farm run-off? Any advice? Thanks
@@get_outdoors I took a Katadyn water filter and never had an any issues, I also took some Aquatabs as well but never used them. There are plenty of shops, pubs/cafes on the route if you wanted to use these it wouldn’t be too difficult. Good luck. Any other questions please ask. 👍
Brilliant videos, did the azt 18 year ago, have had Brett's routes on my radar, for when I retire next year, how would you compare the get and the mogollon rim.
@@stephenkeating344 To the AZT? The GET is way more difficult from a terrain standpoint as a lot of the route is off trail. A lot of the times when there is supposed to be a trail there isn’t because of serious fire damage. I carried paper maps and compass with me on the GET as back up but didn’t need to use them as my Gaia app worked just fine. Also there is no way posts or way markers on the GET, MRT as there are on the AZT. There were times on the GET when I was cursing out load in frustration of the bush beating I had to do, There is also a lot more support on the AZT with trail angels and water stashes along the route. On Brett’s trails your on your own which I really liked. I do hope to do the AZT again but SOBO as I’d love to see the same terrain in its Autumn colours. Of all the trails I’ve done the GET is my favourite. If I can help in future with any questions please ask and good luck they are both truly amazing trails.
Thank you for sharing. Walked the RRW this year in April/May. Although I did not have perfect weather, it seems I was more lucky :) But anyway, a really nice experience. I love the Scottish Highlands ever since I walked the West Highland Way last year. Greetings from Poland.
@@Buszkraftowski Thank you for your comment. I worked with a Polish lad recently and he sent me a link to some of the mountains over there, wow! I had no idea what a beautiful country Poland is. Good luck for the future.
@@alantraceyoutdoors3572 Hello. Thx for your answer. Glad your Polish colleague showed you some information. I have some vids from Poland and Germany on my channel if you like to see more.
I've just finished this today in 5 days and bloody hell it was hard. Its like a rollercoaster 🎢 both in ups and downs and emotions. I am 54 overweight, well i was but ive lost 16 pounds in 5 days. The only other long walk I've done was the Cumbria Way in April and this was a lot harder. Sunburnt by day 4, feet full of compeed. I watched this before leaving, so thanks for giving me the inspiration to attempt it.
@@gmanic Hi, I’m so happy for you and to do it in 5 days is pretty damn good. I agree it has a load more ups and downs than the CW and the steepness of some of the steps made it tough. Im pleased my videos helped in some small way and thank you for leaving a comment, good luck for the future 😀
@@Intellibear-Evan Thank you for your kind comment. Brett and Melissa do an amazing job creating these fantastic routes, the GET is also an amazing trail, real wilderness, real remoteness, pure quality. Good luck with your planning, if I can help in any way, please feel free to ask.
Thank you so much for the offer, that could prove very helpful! I haven’t done the GET yet, but the DWTH and NNML were both incredible, and I’d highly recommend them. I’d be happy to answer any questions if you haven’t done those yet and plan to!
@@Intellibear-Evan I plan to do them both, thank you very much for the offer. If you’ve done them you won’t have any issues with the MRT. You definitely won’t need your swimsuit 😀 well, depending on how high the Black River is running! Hope you have a great time.
Hi Pete, thanks for the question. I use the Gaia app extensively now because I hike abroad as well and I’ve got used to it. Back then I used the OS app. I downloaded the GPS coordinates and then downloaded the local maps on to my phone in case I didn’t have a signal. I also used the Hiiker app as well for back up. Hope this helps.
Ok thanks for that. So if I purchase the os app I have to plot my own route across? It isn't pre loaded? Sorry I only have experience with satnav on phones. Pete
@@peterleigh8474 Pretty much, yes. The C2C Isn’t shown on the OSMap as a route you would have to download the gps coordinates into the app. If you purchase the HiiKER app the route is already available you just download it to your phone so it will still work eights signal. There is also a lot of info on camping/hostels/b&b and where the local shops are in relation to you. There are a few good videos out there to help with that particular app as it’s not very intuitive. Any more questions you may have please ask, I’m glad to help, it’s a great trail.
Great videos!! Male wild horses will poop on a another pile to establish dominance, and the poop mound grows bigger and bigger. No BLM employees needed.
Brilliant video fella!! Glad you made it safely to the end of the trail.. I was wondering if you'd get caught in the "no man's land" between the cell towers of Arizona and New Mexico LOL It happened to me once down south of Hannaghan's Meadow a few years ago on a ridge. Through for a loop for a bit til it dawned on me. 😂
Thanks, John. I’m glad you enjoyed the hike, they don’t get any easier! I’m looking at doing a few nearer to home in the near future so I’m not too far from my family. Good luck on your travels.
It’s very well sign posted, but I still had to use my map a few times (OS map app) and I bought the ciccerone guide before I went to work my re supply/camping out but never took it with me. Great trail though.
@@alantraceyoutdoors3572 Yes massive! Still the largest fire in AZ history I believe. Enjoy your rest days. Can't wait to see where you're off to next. Happy trails Thunderbird.
I was wondering if you'd S@#T yourself when Claudia pulled up to speak to you!!! LOL Glad you got a great chuckle out of it! Pint of beer is a great bonding between an Aussie and a Pom LOL Can't wait to buy you one in person for "session".
@@PeterFLB yes, mate. I managed to get a lift from Alma to Safford Which has saved me a 4/5 day hike, and as you probably know the temps are in the 90’s now🥵
Wow, Alan, what an amazing journey. Really put a smile on my face hearing about how you bumped into your friends in Pine, a real unexpected surprise. Take care, buddy
How many takes did 17.23 take? I also thought the views around 30.00 were as good as the others despite the clouds. This is one of your best yet IMO. Take care Al.
Small world! My wife and I did our laundry in Pine later that same day (Wed 24 April) and chatted with the same 3 South African lads. Sorry to have missed you - enjoyed your videos of the AZT. Sadly, that was our last day on trail - injured my calf muscle - will return in the Fall to complete it.
@@alantraceyoutdoors3572 yes I am, I go by my middle name most of the time. We were surprised that she actually ran into you. Hope the brews went down well.
@@PeterFLB I’m going in today. I told the story in my video cos I thought it was great I just wanted to make sure I got your name right. Thank you so much for the offer. Hope you have a great day!
Excellent stuff again, Alan. I find your films very inspiring and have taken a few ideas to plan my own trips for when I take early retirement at the end of this year. By the way, have you upgraded your camera, the quality seems better somehow.
Thank you for the kind words. I took early retirement just over two yrs ago and can honestly say it’s a whole new experience. The amount of time you have to do things you’ve always wanted to do makes things easy. Well spotted, I’m filming with a DJI Pocket 3 in 4k but my next two videos will probably be in 2k as the WiFi out here is extremely slow.
Good to see you back in Arizona. A trick for the cactus needles is get some Elmer's School Glue. Spread on a bit of gauze and place over the needle. Let it dry, then pull it off, the cactus should come out with it. Happy trails Cobber!!!
@@alantraceyoutdoors3572 yes not easy at all. Don't do what I did, got the wrong Elmers Glue, got it off of my cactus problem before it set too hard!! LOL
