The word "efficiency" get's flashed around like a casual by-word. I have asked and asked yet no-one (so far) has been able to quote specific numbers or present graphical test results of the efficiency of the Fottinger hydraulic coupling. My general understanding from the automotive world is that it is unlikely to exceed much above ~80% whereas a well-designed fully-geared drive can exceed 90%. This is an important detail in respect of fuel consumption. My understanding is that ROLLS-ROYCE dyno tested salvaged DB's and analysed their supercharger drive design and efficiency. This must have generated an official report as this testing was commissioned by the R.A.E. I would like to see that report. It would go a long way toward explaining the mystery as to why R-R (and others) never copied it. Does any know for sure??
i think you need to be very specific with the question including all parameters, perhaps at full speed the speed differential is minimal and start up/blockage is less than a single percentage of the duty cycle. i believe auto-style are as efficient as possible everywhere otherwise city driving mpg would be horrific, and on the highway the system is bypassed using a centrifugal clutch
In North America with coal exports have been relatively flat since the late 70's, and domestic consumption is ever diminishing due to markets, plus coal powered generating plants are reaching their maximum life span and are going off line with few new plants coming on line, add to this the robotization of mining via LWMO and other automated systems, so promises made by politicians to bring back coal jobs is disingenuous at worst, or ill informed in the least.
What about rib support? If you're using steel mesh i suggest switching to corrugated plastic mesh. Unlike steel its fire resistant, anti-static and easy to identify loose rocks because of the corrugation. They're also light and easy to handle
