I've been playing guitar for nearly 60 years and I still have not mastered Travis picking. And the most disheartening thing is while like this guy most players use all their fingers, Merle Travis did it using only his thumb and one finger.

It appears that "Aunt Mandy" was Amanda Bowling Bailey (1883-1972) She was born to Jason Walker Bowling and Catherine Bowling. The Unamed 92 year old sister from the newspaper article appears to be Margaret Bowling Garrison (1873-1974)
