Oh wow you reminded me i have this in my bookcase lol i must dig it out, it was one of those impulse buys we wargamers are so fond of, hopefully we will see a playthough of this beaut of a game, actually i have paths to hell as well might you do a review play of that one as well ? cheers jo. love to all.
Love Plaay Games! Excellent assortment of super creative games! Great video as always. You are One of my favourite channels. Like the mix of sports and war games. Keep up the great work.
There were some times where an additional hex in computing range was done. You caught yourself early on once though. Talked to a guy at work about this game and he recommended it. Seems like he knows Walker. I’m enjoying the play through. Great job and thanks.
Thanks! I'm a big fan of Flying Pig Games in general. It costs more but the components are fantastic and the rules are generally pretty easy to pick up.
Thanks for the video on a game that rarely appears in presentations. Certainly no plans to do a reprint since the Spanish creators have parted way with Compass Games and started their own company instead (Draco Ideas).
Nice find! Well done. I gave up on finding this one at a reasonable price. I look forward to your next play through video! 😂Cheers and thank you for the video.
You can correctly use “Afghan” and “Mujahideen” interchangeably here. The handful of foreign fighters (including UBL) involved didn’t play much of a role at all.
Joe, I see that you are about to once again cost me money! When I was an undergrad, I had the best Ancient History Professor and I have always loved this period. Looks like a fantastic game. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing a game play video. The game systems looks interesting and the war between Athens and Sparta has lots of complex military operations and equally fascinating personalities. And I think that it lends itself to a mixing of Euro and Wargame mechanics and a more strategic/diplomatic/Economic view as opposed to a more traditional Hex/Counter (no pun intended) & static Chart approach. Thanks, as always, and have a wonderful week! Nick Stasnopolis
Thanks Nick - this does look like an excellent melding of Euros and wargames. The components are top notch and I am really looking forward to playing this one.
Do like the old school D&D nerds and punish them misbehaving dice by allowing them to 'cool-off' in the freezer for a few days; that'll teach them! I do the same when dice start to act against (not the freezer bit) me-replace, at least temporarily....Hey on the brightside Rudel is hanging in there. Flying Stukas was say, a 'perilous' endeavor. Loving the vids, thanks for posting Joe.
I remember sitting on my grandfather’s floor seeing the gaffe throw away at the end. Me and my brother were rooting for Georgetown as we were UVA fans. Grandfather for NC. 40 yrs later brother is now a hardcore NC fan. Thanks for video. Wish I had this one.
That's a great story. Game's hard to find these days, one of my favorites in the 80s that somehow survived my time in the military, college, moves, etc.
Thanks. Yes, the learning curve is daunting for sure. Butterfield is a master of making solitaire games where the "AI" actually works well. Unfortunately that requires more complexity than most other games.
@@danderson5084 It is certainly more complex than the D-Day series, but once you "get it" it doesn't feel that bad. The nice thing is that you can play either side and also play "old fashioned" solo by just playing both sides. I'm hoping to do EA: Ardennes this winter so I'll have another data point to consider then.
Yes, it does take a while to play a full game. That's the case with most full-play basketball games and why the designer actually leans more on the base game which condenses things down to a manageable length. It really depends on whether you want full stats or not.
It seems there is to much emphasis on armor close assaulting. Weren't most tank battles fought at a distance? I know some allied tanks raced to close with longer ranged German tanks but were the assaults or just closer range fire?
Do you find that videos the come out earlier in the month have higher views….it makes sense…I was surprised at how high 85 was given the late in the month release…may have been number one if released in first week of may
Yes, timing definitely has an impact - as you said that makes sense. Some of the late month releases end up being near or at the top of the following month. The gameplay video for '85 from 5/28 is #4 over the last 28 days, and I expect it will be fairly high for the June recap, potentially #1.
GMT just released a new printing of Washington’s War which I picked up through P500 so that along with For the People is probably also contributing to the views.
Hi Joe, I enjoy these quick overviews. It is especially interesting to me that in your higher rated videos are both the traditional Hex/Counter and Chart games along with CDGs and Card assisted games. As someone who is been engaged with this hobby for a long time, this is a great time to play boardgames. I'm glad that you take the time to provide interesting and informative content for us! Have a good week! Nick Stasnopolis
Hi - I just bought today the new edition of The Last Gamble: The Battle of the Bulge, Designer Signature Edition. It looks to be a superb new edition. I also just picked up the Pipe Creek expansion soon for the Most Fearful Sacrifice and really looking forward to the Rock of Chickamauga (also by Flying Pig) when it launches later this month.
Honestly, I'm not sure. I do know that as the war went on the Stuka losses rose dramatically, which ultimately is why the switch was made to make it more of a tank killer than a true dive bomber. @joeinfantryman would undoubtedly know better as I'm sure he did a ton of research while designing the game.
Great video. Anxious to give this a play. Your statement that Rudel was "kind of a big deal" is an understatement. He was, in fact, the most highly decorated German of the war. Even continued to fly (and ski) after he lost a leg.
Downey has a game called Player of the Game Basketball. It's different than Momentum (for obvious reasons as they're completely different sports), but it is quickplay and generates stats. It's on their website at downeygames.com if you want to read the description.
It seems that the publisher prefers the quick-play History Maker version, but I can vouch that this Prime Time version is a terrific game and experience. It’s extraordinary difficult to recreate the pacing of a sport like basketball, yet PLAAY has managed to successfully do so here. Looking forward to your playthrough, Joe.
