I think you would have fun coming to Pennsylvania and fishing the Susquehanna River. The smallmouth are just different here. I would definitely recommend booking a guide trip. The jet boat ride through sketchy water to the hot spots alone is worth it.
Randy appreciate what you are doing. I enjoy your seminars. It’s the little tid bits I get that make a difference. I’ve started fishing a jerk bait all year long. ( on a bait caster mostly sorry). But it’s a rare day that I can’t get but on a jerk bait. Especially in the heat of the summer. I catch tons of schooling fish in 20-40 feet of water off points and ledges. Just find the balls of Shad on my side imagine
Without a doubt, after the spawn, my favorite and most successful technique to catch summer time bass that you did not mention is fishing shell beds. I have found bass will either be on the shell, suspending off the drop, where the shell ends and the drop begins or at the bottom of the drop. This pattern will hold into the fall and through the winter, but in the spring, it's not very productive.
Gives us pickwick lake a holler haha , not stained anymore all the grass has helped it filter an its little rougher to catch fish , still great lake to fish all year.
Hard to beat a 10-12" worm in the summer...Always amazes me how many 1-2 lb'ers have no problem eating that big worm...don't underestimate a 12" black ribbontail worm with a light weighted swimbait hook swam near the surface...Bass do eat snakes!
That's funny. I just got back from my lunch break. I caught a nice one from the bank swimming a plum Ol Monster along the bottom on a belly weighted swimbait hook. I've never fished a worm on one of those b4, but it's all I had in the truck. It worked.
Love fishing the Magdraft for smallies on the rivers, they crush them! They are little harder to fish in the current to keep the right speed but definitely produce big fish. FYI the 6" version weighs 1.25 oz. Do you ever weight them to get them to run deeper and if so what methods are using? Nail weights? Where do you recommend putting them that will not mess up the action of the bait?
I still have box's of Rebel square bill crank baits, both shallow and deep. They fill 80% of my S.B. Fishing. chrome in clear, gold in stained. Bandits make up the red and chartruse needs. I change out the hooks to owner wide gap short shank trebles. They hold big fish stay on better and dont hand near as much. Good seminar!
I tell my kids that nobody catches fish with a bad attitude. Also- I believe different casts are like different pitches in baseball. The more you can effectively throw, the more successful you can be.
This video is one of the most important you have created. I myself can see where I need to improve on my organization skills. I am getting better. After 50 years of bass fishing, I have acquired a room full of tackle. For the most part, all my tackle is organized. But in the past, when I load the boat for a day of fishing, my question is, “What do I bring?” I end up loading too many boxes of baits of two many colors and variations that simply clutter my boat and my mind. Also, I bring too many rods. I have recently been purchasing old Umco 1000 and Plano tackle boxes of the 1970’s and 1980’s. I have labeled and created a box for each of my different lakes I fish frequently with proven baits for that lake and season. I pre load the box with my favorite lures and a few experimental lures for research. This tackle organization technique seems to have focused my energy more into searching for bass and improving my skills rather than worry about what lures and baits to bring. I have sometime envied the members of my bass club who only throw one or two baits period. There are a couple of “Carolina Rig” only guys. There are “Shakey Head” only guys. There are “crank bait” only fishermen. But historically the past club fishing results seem to favor the “Spinnerbait” only fishing guys. All day long, regardless of season or time of day they throw spinnerbaits. These fishermen only need two or three rods and a small tackle box to fish all day.
Great video. Will work some big baits this year on a clear lake with some nice sand flats with cover and deep water access. The awesome thing is the N WI lake is a world class musky lake, better than average largies, and tank smallies. The Muskies open up more targets for trophies.
These videos are bass gold to me! Seriously, patterns, seasonal locations, this is everything in thr sport. Iftheres no bass around, you wont catch any. These keep me on the fish more for sure.
A professional bass angler still needs some kind of information about a new lake just to try and catch a bass after getting dropped off a helicopter. Don’t underestimate the ones who are great at what they do with zero knowledge. 🫵🏼
Great video !! As usual, 100% spot on with everything! The mental aspect is so key as nothing else matters if you don’t believe and visualize success. Anybody can be good when it’s easy, but not many can be good when it’s tough. Anyone trying to become better at bass fishing is making a HUGE mistake if they’re not watching this RU-vid channel. Thanks again, Randy!
If you put a video out on seasonal patterns and bass movement I’d sure tune in to watch I’ve always struggled with the seasonal patterns and would like to learn more about bass behavior your doing a awesome job on all your channels keep up the good work Randy
No bs I order Lil tiny vibrating things that they put in "finger massagers " etc.. Anyways I put these in my hallow body frogs.. If you've ever seen a bee buzz in a circle in a bucket of water u know what I'm trying to get at.
Get some books or books on tape from Neapolitan Hill, Earl Nightingale, Stephan Covey, etc.. “Your attitude, Not Your Aptitude, Will Determine Your Altitude.” - Zig Ziglar. You've gotta love the Zig! All the best.
"They undermine their own success" There's a pearl of wisdom. I've found in sports it's usually 10% mechanical and 90% the real estate between your ears. Most folks get that backwards. Folks fail to put the effort into honing the mechanics and fail to see the importance of mental preparation (a broad topic). Good video sir.
Extremely informative video.. The energy you put out is the energy you get in return. Staying positive is the most important thing I take with me every time I go out on the water. Thanks Randy
Fish when things are going good. Fish when things are going bad. Fish when life is hard. Fish when life is easy. Fish when you're happy. Fish when you're sad. Fish, just FISH. Have a BLESSED day y'all, I wish you the absolute best!
When testing out new fishing tips and tricks I like to do that in smaller lakes and ponds with fairly clean water and polarizing glasses. This way I can see directly how fish react to a new trick and tweak it until it works. Thanks Randy for this deep insight you are giving us into bass fishing👏
I love the difficulty of fishing. Fishing and jitsu are the most complicated but the most rewarding hobbies/sports I've ever done. The constant evolving/learning to get better is why I love them so much.
