The MSJO is the youth orchestra program of the Manila Symphony Orchestra. The group won 1st prize “with outstanding success” at the 2018 and 2024 Summa Cum Laude International Music Festival held at the Musikverein in Vienna. The group also won the Gold Prize, and Gran Prix for garnering 99 points at the 2024 Bratislava International Music Festival. They have had concert tours in Salzburg, Vienna, Prague, Munich, Venice, Florence, Rome, Budapest, Bratislava, Korea, and Myanmar. The group is composed of the most advanced students of the MSO Music Academy and other qualified students ages 8 to 26 years old under the baton of Prof. Jeffrey Solares. They regularly rehearse a varied repertoire with special focus on Classical and Baroque works together with especially arranged modern and Filipino compositions. Several MSJO members are also featured as soloists in their various programs as part of their training experience of performing with this ensemble.
Whoever arranged this orchestral version is brilliant! My god. I hope more Filipino compositions get this treatment, not because it will be better with western sensibilities but only out of curiosity. I live the choral version of Kruhay and I do love this as well.
That's a bit fast tempo. For a student orchestra perhaps a slower tempo would be appropriate? They pulled it off anyway. Very nice. Every single kid in that orchestra plays better than I do. Just sayin...
