I flew a pc12 in their in 2019 it’s like you flying through the mountains and boom Theres a runway the approach kept me on the edge of my seat and especially when all I heard was “ terrain, pull up”. But it was definitely a experience that I’ll never forget
I am surprised the first Texan actually landed on runway 14, which of course is on the downhill slope. Pretty cool all in all anyways. Someone should attempt to land a P-51 Mustang there and then bust out.
Let’s see- field length 2900’, elevation 4432’ with rising terrain nearby , runway slopes uphill, no lights - night landings probably a bad idea.......
oh yes you would be right, there is someone in the door... it's crew of 4, 2 pilots and 2 crew members(FE/CE) depending on preference one works the ramp and the other front... love love love that sound, it definitely doesn't sound like that in the aircraft
Obviously fall. Who knows what kind of cross currents he was dealing with on approach. Not sure as an arm chair quarter back you could make that distinction! The airport is at 2K. Please update the number of hours you have in a Pilatus 12. And the number of rotations into mountain fields? Thanks
Russian made Kazan MI-8MTV-1 helicopter.. registration shows its owned by a company in Florida. Someone had a pic of it at the Asheville Airport few days ago..
That area of western is a popular low level training area. This particular one is an Air Force bird that most likely came from Pope. The Marines fly through that area from Cherry Point. The Asheville airport is used for touch & goes a lot. However I have no idea why they would have gear down going over Mountain Air, that's a little far from the field to be flying dirty.
@lashwhip78 They are required to do a certain amount of high-altitude training to stay current. Since the 160th SOAR is based out of Ft. Campbell, KY, and 2NC0 (Mountain Air) is the highest runway east of the Mississippi, it makes sense for them to use it.
Do you realize you have very rare video of MK-60 Special Operations Blackhawk helicopters? These are flown by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. The same men who flew the raid to kill Bin Laden. The helicopters you see in your video are specially designed for DELTA Force, Special Operations and SEAL missions. Very excellent video. You should add tags to your video or change the description noting the aircraft. People would be interested to see it.
I'm not sure where the C130s are based, but they routinely practice low altitude mountain flying in this area and sometime request permission for flyover at Mountain Air, 2NC0.
