Having just read that Debussy described Grieg's music as "bonbons wrapped in snow", it was a revelation to discover the depth of feeling expressed in this great work! I look forward to coming to know it through this fine performance in the coming months. Heading towards 80 I am blessed to be able to play some of the composers best known pieces on the piano.
Beautiful people performing beautiful music exquisitely. Grieg would love this stunning performance. I know this is now 5 years old, but it is timeless. Thank you all. - I just listened to this again and am stunned at the beauty, the strength and musicality of this performance. I heard the Amadeus Quartet play this in Berlin in the 1970s and I never thought I would hear it played with so much grace, emotion and musical perfection again, but this performance did not disappoint. Thank you again Oh, great camera work as well!😊
@@PaulJohnBeatles based on your username, I assume you like the Beatles. A band that rehash the same chords and forms over and over and over again. Appears to me that you simply enjoy these cliché structures and have not acquired the ability to enjoy the complexity of classical music. This isn’t inherently bad and most people are like this as we are constantly bombarded with simple music day in and day out. Classical music is such a varied genre and spans hundreds of years, maybe you just need to find the style that suits you.
@@worldmusictheory Classical music is boring and thats why it is run by tax money. Beatles use very complex chord structures and never repeated themselves. There is no two similar songs by them. But the beatles has nothing to do with te question of bored by classical music. Anyone can write so called complex music. who cares?
@@PaulJohnBeatles Wow, I never realised someone could be close minded and have an apparent visceral hatred for music they haven’t even taken the time to know or appreciate. Also one final remark, The Beatles suck.
Call me old-fashioned, but I love it when live performers have the ladies wear gowns of individual color, and the men wear suits or tuxedos. Everything about it strikes a chord in my soul. Great performance as well! Thank you all.
Bravo!
Fabulous performance. The first movement echoes in my mind the last quartet of Beethoven somehow. On a side note, classical music performers these days look fit, very few or none are out of shape. Cheers from NYC😃
witnessed a high school quartet play this live when i was 15, and even in that setting it brought me to tears. Grieg just does something to me. This piece rips something out of me. The part played by the man in glasses in this rendition, in particular, those harmonies! And of course, the woman in the teal dress is doing an incredible job. My favorite part of this performance is how much fun they’re obviously having, as if they all know each other well enough that even playing something like this piece can be a joyful experience.
This is the first time I've heard this piece. For Grieg, I think Peer Gynt, Holberg, or perhaps the Piano Concerto, but this quartet, as they say, is Something Else!!! Such drama and passion, interspersed with flashes of gentleness and wry humour, so eloquently brought out by these wonderful musicians. No wonder there was such applause and cheers at the end. Bravo, and thanks so much for this excellent video.
Wuuuuooo fantastic! Amazing armony! La partitura es genial como la interpretación de l@s music@s, qué virtuosos! Felicitaciones a todas y todos y abrazos con calor a todo, Norte de Europa!
@@solveiglandvikbrg9103 smolfeesh is a youtuber (who plays tetris games on his channel) that said one of his favorite pieces was the grieg string quartet
My favourite piece of classical music from when I was a young teen. And now, closing in on 50, I still think this is amazing. Thank you for an amazing rendition!
