Great help im doing the plugs on my 3ltr xf which is exactly the same, ive removed the drives side scuttle but i think it could be done without this being done.
Never seen a strap filter tool like that before! I need one! Thank you for this vid! Doing gods work for the few thousand ppl who own these amazing cars. 👏 👊👊
Dude! This helped me so much today! My 987 drop links were totally bonded in. Even my massive hammer wouldn’t shift it. It took courage to cut the ball off, then I had to use a long breaker bar but got it out eventually. Thanks for this video…brilliant!
Great video you may find it easier to fill a plastic jug to save guessing oil quanty. As a mechanic I know when positioning circlips is important. Keeping everything clean is paramount, hence the rags.m.mj
Hi George, at 6:26 you show an electrical plug and then 3 seconds later you talk about a duplicate plug. I believe the duplicate (lower) plug is inlet manifold control valve (XR815344 or C2S42607), what's the top one for?
@@georgemayson4936 Don't worry! I found out in the end, there are two inlet manifold control valves, both identical (same part numbers), one for the left bank and the other for the right bank.
Good tip! I just did it on mine, what worked for me was to heat the back of the stud. Hearing just the front didn’t make it budge but heating the back made it come right out
Why screw around replacing the bushings? Considering the economics and time involved, replace those wimpy oem shocks with new upgrade shocks you’ll thank me 😊
All Fiat 500s with oem rear shocks failed prematurely because of the bad design of the upper bushings. I replaced mine with KYBs which have solid rubber bushings. If you can afford them Koni yellows are a great upgrade again with solid rubber bushings.
Fantastic video, absolutely explained in detail, I’ve a Fiat Abarth 595 (2018) I’ve intermittently got serious squeaking coming from rear suspension on both sides, I’ve looked @ my bushes underneath & there’s huge gaps, so gauge that my bushes have give up the ghost, but after watching your video I don’t sense it’s going to be an expensive job, can’t truly see it being anything else, keep up the cracking videos, you’ve a new subscriber in me, regards Gary⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quick tips for the UK car take the fuel pump fuse out "F21 15 amp" and crank the car until the oil light goes off....you really don't want start any engine dry, the crank shells don't like it at all😮. Also never leave your oil cap completely off whilst working in the engine bay all manner of thing's can drop in there and really ruin your day😂. Hope this helps.... great video.
I've got to do the same on my 981 Cayman. I've heard it's not good for the cat and o2 sensor to hammer on it too much. Did you have any issues with emissions on your MOT following doing this?
No I didn't have any issues at all - but I can understand the logic. Get the studs as hot as you possibly can and hit them immediately. If they don't come out in a few hits get them red hot again. There's no point beating on them if they're not softened.
Good in depth video BUT oil filter housing definitely needs tightening to 25 Nm (19 Lbs Ft). Your method of hand tight plus 1/4 turn will not have seated the housing fully,. If you can feel or see a gap at the base of the filter housing it is not fully seated.
Thanks, a very helpful video. This is a a prime example of something designed to be easy on the assembly line. There must be a special tool for the Mini workshops, I can't see them messing about with screwdrivers.
Just put in 4 US Qts. of synthetic oil and no need to check it, since that's what you did once draining and refilling it. We use 5w-40 here in the USA.🙂
I have a f57 ( 2015 convertible) just bought, no horn…replaced horns thinking most likely cause but it didn’t fix it…are the contacts on this car like mine!
@@georgemayson4936 update: Pulled wheel bag and cleaned contacts and still no horn. Had a guy email me and said the horn relay is built into the passenger side kick panel and if that’s it then it’s like $700 to fix…Could also be steering wheel replacement….can’t believe nobody has a fix for this..buying a top end scanner
@@tombowden6580 A relay is not $700 unless the labour charge is $650 p/h Relays are designed to be swapped out. Realy manel and fuse box is easily accessible.
Thanks for the info very helpful. I have an XF 3.0 V6 petrol which I think is the same engine as yours! I need to do my plugs as the car has just done 70k. Been doing some research and as you say very little about this job so your video was welcome and gave me some tips. Agree the manifold bolts should be torqued properly - did you change the inlet manifold seals when you did your plugs? Certainly a much bigger job than changing plugs on most cars! Watched the video on Jayem's channel of your Jag which was great - think you got a bargain.
I'm glad it's been of help - if I'd realised how much work was involved I'd have done a better how to video on it. I didn't do the manifold seals, but I'm needing to go back in to do the cam cover gaskets so I'll probably do them at the same time 👍 Thanks for the kind words R.E. James' video, I had good fun doing that 😅
I’ve had to do both my 987.1 and 987.2 and used stainless steel blots , there’s still ok 3 years on it’s another one of those jobs ever 987 driver has to do at some point ..
Thanks for this. Mine has given problems since it funny enough just came out of warranty 3 years ago. For the pleasure of fixing it Mini wanted to charge £450 so this gives me the confidence to have a go myself. If you hit the central boss in one place the horn still works so a couple if the four contacts must be good. This is know fault and BMW should have done a recall on this problem.
