The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) was established under Swiss Civil code in 1995, currently has 170 members from 130 countries and represents IPAs worldwide as the only official umbrella organization. It offers its members a platform to discuss latest trends and exchange best practices in investment promotion, and a network to advocate government support for the work of IPAs and recognition of their role in stimulating development.

Generally, WAIPA seeks to coordinate its efforts with the organizations that are members of its Consultative Committee, which are: IEDC, OECD, UNCTAD, UNIDO, ILO, ICC and World Bank.
