He’s explaining what every producer knows just by listening to his music. If you know how to mix and produce a beat you can listen to jpegmafia and notice the small things he adds that are sub perceptual to the average listener. And he’s right, a lot of it is super meticulous stuff that no mixing engineer would care enough to do. But that’s why he’s a producers producer, he doesn’t care. He knows that the right people will notice.
Real Mega was unacceptable, but most of his other creative works are as better as those beats. At least it's better than the mainstream obvious nostalgia bait sampled beats way of marketing. Devon Hendryx'/Jpegmafia's music was already nice since his first creative projects, and if we are debating about sampling then basically you're promoting that hip hop, or any sample based music from another music such as plunderphonics should cease to exist.
ive felt the same and have had the same experience and am now just starting to put put my music because its the only way it can see the fully completed in a unique way. for anyone that checks it out i hope its enjoyable.
man has his bandcamp uploads for $0 / pay anything knowing damn well its easier then getting samples cleared and paying distributors; plus fans can decide the income he makes on that platform alone. love him or hate him hes a marketing genius and is climbing his way to the top with all the respect he deserves. also i agree with his point on mixing, i hate paying some idiot to do the job and make it the opposite on how i wanted it to sound. i learned the hard way and bought one limiter and now its an afternoons work to finish a track for me :P.
