OK, , WHY have I just now Discovered THIS ? Dan has been an Inspiration to me ever since I bought “Home Free” in 1972. I walked my early Teen years Singing along to his songs, , I tried really hard to learn so many of them by ear on guitar. Love the sound of his Guild 12 String here, , I especially love his playing of “Make Love Stay” too, , I saw him open up for the Eagles around 1977, , all by himself like this show in Mobile, AL, , So misunderstood by most of my “Rocking” friends back in those ‘70’s , , His VOICE to me, is one of the Greatest to ever sing in this Country, , Gone way to early Dan, , sure do miss you, , 😔
When you go out there with no other musical distractions knowing any mistakes will be noticed and cook like this shows you are truly a gifted professional.
What I don't understand is how Dan was an atheist. He had a ranch in Colorado with a full recording studio, a home in Maine, and a sailboat. It's not like his life was hard growing up. He was raised to be an atheist. Listen to Part of the Plan and see if you can catch it. Dan has passed away and kept true to his faith. It takes tremendous faith to believe that everything came from nothing. Unfortunately for Dan, he received the second death he worked so hard to achieve. Eternal separation from God. Our talents are from God and we are to use them to bring glory and honor to Him. I love the fact that God's grace allows us to choose to listen and follow. Jesus said my people perish from a lack of knowledge. What knowledge? We don't read the Word of God. Because of that, we don't know what we are doing.
Paul Revere & The Raiders were my favorite pop band & Mark I do believe u helped that band along with your talent for singing & song writing & creating their clothes. Then when, Fang, Smitty & Drake left to form their new band-The BROTHERHOOD it just didn't work out. So Paul & u were forced to find new members & with new members new style of clothes & new music, I followed the band from HERE THEY COME TO INDIAN RESERVATION & BOUGHT EVERY NEW ALBUM AS IT CAME OUT & 1 OF MY FAVORITE MUSICAL SHOWS WAS-WHERE THE ACTION WAS ALOT OF GOOD MUSIC & TALENT, KEITH ALLISON THEN CAME ON & KINDA LOOKED LIKE PAUL MCCARTNEY., THEN WITH THE NEW MEMBERS-FREDDY-CHARLIE & JOE JR ALL NEW MUSIC WAS COMING OUT. Don.
One side of my family started as Boston fishermen and when things were not going well built a sailing ship to go around the horn to get to the California gold rush. Didn't get rich but stayed
Love the music tape at the end of the interview really wonderful can't turn it off cause I may not find it again. And it's the middle of the night. Don't want to miss this wonderful music video and the joy it brings ❤️
From humble bun boy to huge tv and rock star fame. I made up some coffee can bongos and played along to their records while dancing the Raider's step in my room. Mark's vocals had a certain gravely edge on songs like Hungry, Kicks and Good Thing (my fav) that I liked. Mark's "nananananananaw" on the close of Let Me is STILL a world unto itself, imho.
I am so glad I got to meet him in 2003 in Vancouver B.C. when he, Robby , & Ian Astbury were touring as Doors in the 21st Century. What a gentleman he was . He was so appreciative of his Doors fans . ❤✌
I wish that Justin and John would not become strangers. It would be nice if they would continue with another album or 2 being the BLUE JAYS! It can happen and their music will still be very loved by all of their fans, I guarantee it!!!
Love Big Sur. I lived in the San Gabriel Valley, always had a radio on, i was the age of the kid in the Memphis TN. I was the youngest, and my sister n cousions would blast Moms Stereo when we were cleaning, while she was at work. Been a fan ever since. In the 90s i had my daughter in the car, radio on KRTH 101and my daughter asked me 'the question' Why is he saying secret ASIAN MAN? I was laughing, had to explain 007and what a spy wasshe loves 60s n 70s music. I always wanted to marry you as a kid, and i am a bit older now and sometimes i live in Historic dist of Boulder COLORADO. Had a f t ien from my teens here when i was married about when this was made, 2001 and did a Fat Tuesday night. She brought me a CD had a guy on the front in a suit with a tape outline of the body. 🫣 had great New Orleans music, i loved that. And i love you! Thanks for putting this out, to both of you. Come visit, and know i did go to school for Multitrack Recording the year it was high time to start digital, so i learned both that year ! ❤ Don't stop what you do!
Rest in Paradise Ray Manzarek. What a beautiful soul. A fantastically charismatic, pleasant, talented, and inspirational man. He’s one of those people you just wish could have lived forever. He will live forever through everyone who knows and looks up to him. Love you Ray.
Very informative. However, I do wish we could hear the questions, because I can't always tell what song Ray's referring to if he doesn't say the title. Time to get out the earbuds I guess.
Love these guys so much. Just saw both of their shows last week, they are still fantastic. 2024 even stranger times! They are so humble, their music was the best. No one could do what they did, not even the Beatles.
A lot of details on how the Doors were formed comes out in this interview that always gets glossed over in more PR sounding interviews. I dont think most people are aware how bad a singer Jim was when he started out, you can hear the original album they made on youtube which the record company wouldnt release. They grew organically as a band, its amazing they saw the potential in Jim and that potential fully flowered into something much more powerful than any other band had made at that time. Im quite sure Jim is still alive, I wish he would finally come out of hiding and give the universe a last goodbye.
Thanks for this, it is gold. DF getting PO'd at the lack of door security was priceless. He was a well-spoken man. Of course, so many songwriters are. It goes with the territory, I guess.
