Aloha @kathleenboemig4109 ! I instantly recognized the name! My neighbor to the north, I hope you enjoy my project here and more importantly any suggestions for future recipes are welcome. Mahalo.
@ryantaylor8195 Thank you for the question, yes you are correct, there are ciders that contain alcohol, here in the US they are called Hard Ciders, like Strong Bow or Angry Orchard brands and are more like an Apple beer. I am referring to non-alcoholic cider that is more in line like a spiced apple juice. Does that help? Be sure to like, share and Subscribe!
@tedbullpit6164 Oh no! Just apple cider, it’s available in most grocery stores. Thank you for that question, if you asked that, I am sure others may have thought it. I am glad we got that cleared up!
Ahoy @jeffgrier8488 ! Be on the lookout for homemade Chambord and a Velvet Gorilla, but I love the idea of making spiced rum! You will definitely see that soon!!! Great idea.
@pamp5797 that is really personal choice. Some people like the extra cinnamon, some like less. It's like some people like pulp in their orange juice and some don't. It's really up to you!
Been making this for 30+ yrs. For smoothest flavor it must sit, jarred, for over a month!!! When freshly mixed with everclear it has a nasty bite to it. After a months rest it will be as smooth as Kool-aid. Also try pineapple juice with coconut for a mai tai flavored shine. Concoctions are endless!
About the Mai Tai flavored mix, is flake coconut placed in a pot and simmered like the spices in this video? Or is it a coconut flavored liquid? Could you please give the ratios?
@donmiller2908 I usually make a 5 gallon batches. Sorry to say I never measure. Been making batches for so long I just dump, pinch, and taste test. Tried many different coconut concoctions. Easiest way I've found is to use extract, while cooled down, to taste. Play around with it. Have fun and enjoy!!
2-bottles of 190proof Everclear, 2-bottles of Crown Royal apple, 2- bottles of Fireball cinnamon whiskey, 1qt. Mott's apple juice, 1qt. Mott's apple cider 😋 Drink Responsibility 😊☺️
@@BBPirateBar simple apple brandy...5 cans of concentrate and 6 pounds of sugar..champain yeast..after proofing to 90 add additional can of concentrate...let stand on med oak chips for a couple of weeks...last batch turned better than last...i used old orchard brand apple juice...CHEERS from Tennessee🇺🇸
@-DW thank you for reaching out. Great eye for detail! That is just a “Me” thing. With this particular squeezer, I find I get more out this way, actually leaving no pulp behind. Thanks for watching, be sure to Like and Subscribe.
@Spydiggity 🍸 Great Question! Actually, there are some differences. Our Old World Homemade Limoncello is Lemon Steeped Vodka, Water and Sugar, whereas a Lemon Drop Martini is Citron Vodka, Triple Sec, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup, garnished with a sugar rim. There are some similarities, but differences, too. Thank you for the question, be sure to subscribe to see our latest shows!
@jacksonpahl8258 thank you so much! Let us know how yours comes out. Maybe experiment with more or less sugar to gauge how sweet you want yours. Thank you for being a subscriber, share this out to some of your friends who need to see this. Sneak Peak: Our Homemade Bailey’s Irish Cream recipe is coming next week! We’re really excited about it!
Great video ! Love that alcohol ❤ A former Italian workmate used to make limoncello for the company, she bought litters of raw alcohol et put wholes lemons in (and other citrus but you know, family secret 😂), et let the magic begins 😂
Thank you! This actually inspires me to try this with oranges! I wonder if putting in whole fruit would “spike” the lemon juice inside? The Bahama Mama cocktail drops tomorrow and watch for our Homemade Bailey’s Irish Cream next week. P.S. didn’t know if you read the description, but that’s me on the piano in the Godfather intro music and on the accordion in the show intros.
Hey @SwampWaterInfusions thank you! Try it and let me know what you think back here in the comments! Go ahead and subscribe if you haven’t and thank you again if you did.
This really depends on what the mash is intended for. Turbo yeast comes in bags, usually 1 bag for each 6-8 gallons of mash. EC-118 yeast is one small packet for each 6 gallons of must for wine. The amount of sugar depends on the recipe. Sugar shine requires considerably more sugar than a sour mash. I hope that helps. Great question, you could most likely find better answers at www.howtomoonshine.com. Be sure to subscribe if you haven’t!
It is great served over ice or straight from the fridge, or you could put it in a small pot on the stove at the low setting (under 120 degrees so you don’t burn anyone) as a hot drink, with the side benefit of a great smelling kitchen afterwards! Thanks for watching! P.S. Don’t forget a cinnamon stick to garnish the drink
So for a 750 mL bottle of Kahlua it costs ~$18.49 (up that to $23.04 for 1 quart). If I break out the normal cost of each ingredient individually ($2.63 for a cup of rum, $1.65 for a cup of sugar, $13.33 for a cup of Kahlua brand coffee, and $0.67 for a Tsp. of vanilla extract) I get a price of $18.26 for 1 quart if you make your own which is around a ~$4.75 savings. Using the very pricey Kahlua branded coffee (that is coming up as ~$19.99 a bag) it really eats into any savings realized when using this recipe. My brand of coffee is way cheaper (Whole Foods 365 @ ~$3.00/cup) and using that for ground coffee makes this recipe cost closer to $7.94 for 1 quart. That means by making your own Kahlua you are potentially saving ~$15.00 a quart. So as long as it tastes good and lasts as long on a shelf that is a really great savings!
@chuck6290 Thanks for watching and writing in! WOW! What detail you dove into!. There are a couple of things you should know. In our Publix Kahlua runs $19.49 (thanks to surge pricing). I paid $5.99 for the Kahlua Dark Russian Coffee from Home Goods. There are approximately 60-70 teaspoons of coffee in a bag and I used 5 to brew the coffee (and had a little left over)...so being conservative approximately $0.83 for the coffee (assuming 1 quart). The Vanilla Extract was $1.97 at Publix and let's say $0.30 was used. A 4 pound bag of sugar $3.87, so roughly $.75. Using your calculation on rum and rounding up for good measure to $3.00, by my limited head-scratching comes to $.83+$.30+$.75+$3.00=$4.88 per quart. But try the recipe and you be the judge if it is worth it or making some adjustments to the recipe to suit you better. I hope this helps. Subscribe if you haven't and keep those comments coming (like if there is anything you would like to see on the show).
Fast forward to the future. I enjoyed your make your own Kaluah video and I will be trying that myself. So I subscribed and watched this one. With the question of which do I prefer. I drink Black Russians at home and White Russians in a public space. Take what you will from that.
@mikewho8045 thanks for the feedback! Are there any drinks you would like to see on future shows? We have a couple of really great ideas dropping this week, let us know what you think!
Too funny! I will use that! Thanks for watching, we really appreciate it. Let us know what you would like to see in future shows. I guess my dyslexia is showing ;{>
