I still have my CS5000 with an Audio-Technica AT140ML cartridge; works and sounds like new. Yours sounds excellent, and I would love to have that album. Note: Found that album on Amazon and I think it's coming from the UK. I want it but not for $201 lol.
It's an open construction, without a box to resonate / "amplify " low end I doubt you'd get much from such small speakers. Mic can be bad at picking up low end that's for sure, but I doubt those speakers have much low end to begin with . Probably are ment to be paired with closed back subwofer for toned down smooth bass but video is ment to show off just the speakers themselves so no sub included for the test. Or it's just audiophile hatred for any low end in general but I doubt that, setup lacks billion dolar cables and special audio grade Idk power outlet or whatever they are into nowadays.
I built my AR-1500 in the early 70s when I was 18 or 19 years old. I remember Consumer Reports magazine said at the time that it was the most powerful and sensitive receiver they had ever tested. Mine worked perfectly and exactly as I'd hoped. Not long after I built it I took it to a stereo "clinic" open house type thing at a place that sold high-end McIntosh stereo equipment. Coincidently (?) a Heathkit retail store was located almost right next door. A technician hooked up whatever amplifier or receiver you brought to some test equipment right in front of you as you waited, with a line of guys behind you waiting for their turn. He checked out my AR-1500 and within a few minutes looked at me and simply said "If you keep building them like this we'll never sell you a McIntosh." With that he handed me a printout of the test results. It met or exceeded all its specifications and instead of providing the rated 60 watts per channel at full power it delivered 92.5 watts per channel. I was smiling all the way home!
Awesome story, I've read some reviews similar to that. You cement it right in. Wow over 90 watts per channel, Ive heard at least 70 watts and that many of the Heaths are under rated. Thankyou for the comments!
