Wow - you're a selfish dumbass. I bet your friends and family will be disappointed if you grease off the 1st and transform your body into pizza on the pavement - with extra sauce. Forty years ago, when I was on the rescue team, I helped recover a fellow that fell 400 feet on the first. What a horrible site. After that I quit soloing myself - as I'd soloed the first and third many times. I just felt bad for the fellow's family when they'd have to identify him. Well - no doubt - Russian roulette is fun, but is the risk worth it or do you have to stroke you ego? But you are pretty cool and I hope you're experiencing some idolatry!
He trail ran up to the 1st flatiron… have you ever done that hike? I’ve seen tourists unable to even walk the entire thing. High altitude, with a TONE of elevation gain. I’ve soloed the 2nd flatiron and the parking lot to the top is a drastic elevation gain. So I take it that you just run, and climb up entire mountains at a resting breath rate? 🙄
Thanks for this video... Made me realize my party is not anywhere near willing to accept the risks of that climb. Beautiful and looks like you killed it.
This climb is 5.6, which is about the boundary between scrambling and climbing for most experienced climbers. So, most climbers probably wouldn't solo it, but it's also not any particular feat to do so
Very impressive! Climbing down that back side was literally the scariest moment of my life! It got extremely windy up there and without ropes, I was afraid I'd get blown off. Watching this brought back the feeling of terror I had 15 years ago!
Hey, wow this looks super fun. I've never been to the Flatirons but I'm looking it up on Mountain Project -- do you know the name of routes you took for the ascent and descent? I'm super curious. Thanks for sharing this awesome video, I hope that kid isn't still stuck on the ledge!
Thanks for the beta on the first pitch.. Funny thing is that I saw myself in your video- that's me and my son (he's in the red hoodie) coming down after the climb while you are on your way up!! What are the odds of that awesomeness- I live in Missouri!
Last year my friend and I hiked Ypsilon Mountain. It was a fairly warm bluebird day but reaching the top was a windy affair. We immediately took refuge behind the summit windbreak. We snacked, spent and motionless, and began to get cold. About that time a beautiful young woman appears like a siren from the cliffs before us. As my buddy and I sat shivering another sinewy goddess pops up from the precipice. They're both wearing only shorts and Tshirts, gleaming as their long hair tussles in the wind. Fearing they too might be cold I offered up an extra jacket stored in my backpack. "Thanks, but we're fine" they responded, with a look of pity and the gist of sympathy. Feeling neutered I asked where they could possibly have come from? "Blitzen Ridge" they replied!
Very cool! :-) Are those the Sportivas TX2? I wear the Scarpa Zodiak - they're pretty stiff , so good for edging, but smearing on slabs isn't that much fun... do you climb steeper (not harder) stuff with the Sportivas? Do they edge well in this terrain? In the place where I live (Germany / right at the foot of the alps), we also have a slabby route up a nice mountain that my girlfriend and I do regulary after work. With a rope it's 8 pitches and the crux is rated 5.6 but the rest is easy (if your're used to slabs) scrambling. Here is the link to a typical - what we call - free duo friday after work :-) vimeo.com/203710780
Yep, TX2s. They're great! Perfect for the flatirons in Boulder. They climb well for me, but I'm mostly scrambling these days. I like to run/climb and not switch shoes. Nice video btw.
