Early morning or evening it was so beautiful being there these are times that were the best times to be a kid glad i got to enjoy the experience in the 90s but kind of wished I could have seen all this in the 80s
If I could jump through this phone right now I would be enjoying and reliving that old Walt Disney experience right now and not want to return to the present time 90s Disney is what I hold near and dear to me but I would give anything to enjoy the full 80s experience of this time of adventure and excitement
When I was younger all I wanted to do was ride the "teacups" like I saw on the Wonderful World of Disney on tv & see the mermaids in the under sea trip ride in the Nautilus!
The Magic Kingdom, while is amazing and a great achievement, I would say that Walt's greatest dream was what he envisioned for EPCOT, not the one we ended up with, but what he truly saw in his mind. This is my opinion..
I have copies of my schedule from back then. I was working the day this was filmed. Maybe the person with the camera spoke with me to make their dinner reservations. :)
I loved on my first trip to WDW (late 80's) getting a photo with Japanese Minnie and several other characters who were in traditional dress for the pavilion they were at. That was back in the days when you saw characters, including the big 5, just wandering through rather than having to wait in line forever for a pic. (Unfortunately those albums were lost to a hurricane so I only have the memories.)
I have fond memories, but very faint. I may have been 8 or so. I remember the Country Bears, the Swiss Family Treehouse, Jungle Cruise. I remember Peter Pan, the Carousel... the strongest memory I have is of 20k Leagues (it consumed me). Twice my mom took me to the Magic Kingdom and both times, I wanted a souvenir skull from the House of Magic (yes, I'm a bit goth / dark and have been my whole life). Once, we monorailed to the Polynesian and walked through, and I couldn't believe the place. I asked her if we could stay there and she said "we'll see." We never did. Until I reached some success in life. Year 2000 Club Level (Hawaii) building. Now that even seems ages ago. Thank you so much for the video. Made me sad and happy at the same time.
There is an old adage with many different versions but, essentially, it says the enemy of good is better. The loss of this ride is one of many examples of Disney losing site of this old adage. Change for the sake of change usually makes things worse, not better. And while they may have considered the ride "old and stale" or whatever, that may be the case for those who have ridden it many many times. But for first time Disney guests, which I suspect is a large percentage, that wouldn't be the case. It's sad how they feel a need to "upgrade" what was already great, and more often than not, simply to add another product tie in.
I really wish Disney would bring those Human-sized "Muppets" Characters (including Bean Bunny) back to any of their Theme Parks again (for Meet-and-Greets)!
It's rare to see regular 8mm with synchronize sound. It is possible, but usually required a separate tape recorder with a cable transmitting a pulse. Quite the equipment to lug around WDW. Could this have been Super 8 film?
Was an absolute joy watching and remembering these days... was about 9 when this was taken. This was back when going to Disney was worth every penny.... NOW, not so much.
I’ve never heard of Figment until this year. I love the Language Arts Through Imagination videos featuring Figment. Figonia, the magical place where Figment lives in these videos, sounds like a great place.
Wish Disney would release a re-mastered 2D version of this. As an opening-day Epcot Center castmember, I saw this so many times when the pavilion opened in 1983
I rarely comment on anything but this is incredible! This was my favorite ride at EPCOT (I was an 80's kid). I remember the water outside, the Image works!!! We spent so much time there playing and enjoying the experiences!!! I took my son two years ago because I wanted him to experience it. It was so disappointing, bland and terrible!!! THIS RIDE is so full of rich detail, joyful music and enriching experiences for kids of all ages!!! Dreamfinder was like Santa Claus with the most jolly demeanor. Figment was so happy and carefree!!! I miss the old Disney and especially the old Imagineers that made the experience so magical! The magic at Disney is dying and it's so sad.....
