If bikes didn't evolve past these bikes, I'd still be happy. They were and still are a blast!!!!

Who was the poindexter who outlawed open class production racing in Australia & made it a 1000cc limit , it’s died in the arse ever since , they deserve a spray whoever it was.

kinda funny watching those riding styles and bikes were still fairly primitive back then.... most bikes bought off the showroom floor had atrocious handling at high speed or bumpy corners.... in the early mid 80's things got a whole lot better with sports bikes like GSX-R, GPZ, and VF-R actually handling ok... Dukes handled good but down on power.... but the last 20yrs all makes have been absolute rockets with speed and handling to match.

Used to be a few prangs. Pity about the Duke, Guzzi and RD400. All great bikes. My brother had an R100S, exactly the same as Dahne. Scraping the cylinders off always bothered me.

Those Z650 were a quick bike

Awesome little bike. Overshadowed by its big brother though. Conti tires were greasy as shlt, made for.long wear on the autobahns I suppose. I had a Michelin on the front, but small town shop didn't have one for the rear. The fun ended in a 80mph highside.

Thanks Tony, i spent 11 years of my life at Amaroo. What fantastic years of Motorcycle racing, the girls & the beer. When it was stinking hot, we would cross the course between the bikes to cool off in Cattai CK, ( Pissed off the Marshals.) Then, when it rained, ( many years,) we found a cave above Rothmans corner, & would get a fire going, & charge people a joint or a beer to come in out of the wet for 10 minutes at a time. The Gypsy Jokers used to set up near turn 2, they were an amusement. We cannot relive our lives, but we sure as can revisit them thanks to people like you. As a matter of fact, i don't ever remember the ABC televising motorcycle racing back then. Again, Thanks mate.

Yea mate , the ABC did Telecast it to the rest of Oz in those days , we’d do pub crawls around Perth on bikes watching it in between Pubs during Sunday Sessions . crazy times but sounds like you blokes were right in the middle of the whole thing.

Thanks for putting this on Tony as this is the first time I have ever seen some video of my racing career. A bit egotistical I know but after 42 years its good to be able to relive some of the moments. I can correct the views of the Moto Guzzi team as I did not make contact during the pass but the sudden appearance of a BMW rocker cover at close quarters in a difficult passing area probably caused the upset. Hi Joe. Hope you are keeping well and still have the cx500. I had the CX650 in Hervey Bay. Have a RE Interceptor now. Great to see the old footage. Hope you still have the Suzuki 350. Cheers Ian
