My brother had one, 2018,. He loved it but what caused him to return it is that it kept shutting down on him for seemingly no reason and had weird electrical problems. From what i've read that seemed to what a lot of people experienced and the people that love them seem to be a small community compared to the numbers that were sold. The reliability rating on these are so poor I'm wondering if only few were made that actually worked well.

It's your wheel offset/wheel spacers creating additional leverage on the bearings, paired with inadequate struts not absorbing the impacts well enough. If you want/need a slightly wider track to help with camber, try switching to 02-07 STI front control arms (Flatirons is gonna be one of the cheapest sources). Ditch the wheel spacers. And get some subframe/control arm/driveline/rear multilink spacers. I'm running the same CV axle angles as you in the front with my 4"-5" lifted H6/4EAT and I don't have issues with axle boots ripping with long travel inverted coilovers - they just tend to start leaking out of the small end as the boots age.

@@AdventureGT I have a full set of underbody spacers from a SubieLiftOz Monster kit - 2" for all the front bits, 1" for the driveshaft carrier, 3" for everything in the rear. And eventually got some custom length stainless braided brake hoses from ProLines over in the UK equal to the spacers front and rear, but they weren't absolutely necessary as I was able to adjust things to work for a while without them.

This is going to get messy when big fines and jail and lawyers get involved because they lines are so blurry. A CVT-equipped Subaru is mechanically identical to a "Trail Rated" light duty Jeep (Patriot, Compass, KL Cherokee, etc) - interference drive to the front axle and wet clutch to the rear. An old 3/4 ton domestic pickup truck has maybe 7" of ground clearance under its rear differential if it's on stock tires. An electric 4x4 doesn't necessarily have any kind of transfer case or low range anything. In spirit I agree that the park agencies need to figure something out to allow recreational visitors while preventing the destruction of the same land that people want to visit. OHV parks don't work for people whose reason to leave pavement is to explore or seek solitude, it's like offering candy to somebody who needs a meal. I don't know the answer but I feel that this one isn't it. From the half-bakery perhaps a system that simply fines people for trail destruction or going off trail and an anonymous reward system for people who provide photo/video evidence that is used in successfully catching destructive users. For my own part in all this, I'm old and most of the places I used to explore are gated off now. It's no fun wasting a tank of fuel driving around to tour the locked gates of America so that chapter of my life is pretty much closed until further notice.
@AdventureGT
@AdventureGT 7 дней назад
I really like that ideas as well. They must have used trail cams to find the guy in the letter any ways. They found him by license plate. So there could totally be something for catching destructive users. Sorry to hear about your old trails. And that immature off roaders ruined it for yah.
@presidentbusiness5982
@presidentbusiness5982 7 дней назад
It's usually not the vehicle limitations, it's the limitations of the driver. That being said, AWD is not 4x4. An AWD vehicle often uses traction control and ABS to maintain traction. These systems often aid in getting vehicles stuck or causing trail damage with excessive wheel spin, etc. Also, taking the locations weather into account can rule a road or trail to require 4x4. Limitations of an AWD vehicle does not change when you have recovery gear. The gear aids in the recovery of the vehicle, but is not a buff that should allow exceptions to the rules. Disheartening, indeed. But, it's the park visitors rocking up in their hire cars and over confident drivers with their rugged trim packages that have done the damage (literally). All this being said, you didn't speak about conservation. What if an oil pan, transmission, differential, cooling system and/or supporting lines/coolers become damaged? Regardless of the vehicle, I guarantee most do not have proper spill containment kits onboard to stop environmental damage. Accidents happen, and mistakes are made. But, it's a complex issue that is not the difference between AWD and 4x4. National Parks are firstly preserving what is there. If it's not preserved, it's won't much matter what you drive.
@AdventureGT

Really well said. Maybe they could add vehilce inspection check points like they do with the boating community. Every vehilce out off the main roads of the park should cary spill/clean up kits.

This is a truly derpy rule. I have two vehicles that say 4x4 on the back. One is a Ram 3500. I trust that one to do almost anything I need it to do, except crawl rocks. The other is a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with a CVT. I do not trust this thing for ANYTHING other than maintained dirt roads and light snow. But technically, my silly little 4x4 could go on one of these difficult trails, and the NPS wouldn't be able to say ANYTHING to me about it. Meanwhile, far more capable AWD vehicles have to sit on the sidelines and watch my ridiculous, underpowered, CVT Outlander do a trail it can't do.
@AdventureGT
@AdventureGT 7 дней назад
Is that Outlander truly a four wheel drive? Has it just like 2 open differentials? Just curios what you think of it. Always been interested in mitsubishis drive train. Compared to your Ram is sounds like a novelty, but has a place in your fleet.

@@AdventureGT I honestly don't know. I had the mechanic change the fluid in both differentials a year ago. Maybe he got extra money out of me for nothing. I know Mitsubishi also makes it's own version of AWD (called AWC). But this does say 4x4 on the back, not AWC. The AWC option would have cost me a few grand more. So offroad enthusiasts go and blaze a new trail, only to eventually be followed by the general public in their rental jeep. Repeat. apparently one of the issues at moab and some other parks has been people flying in, renting vehicles, and then just sending it... with no knowledge of what the vehicle is capable of, nor care about damaging the rental nor trail, and the cost of recovery in manpower and money has become too much. it's all about volume. in the past 3-4yrs, parks have exploded with people loading up rigs and heading out to explore. i live in N Az, and i can say i have never seen so many "off roaders" in my area, camping, driving, or just exploring. it takes a toll on the roads and environment, in general, which is why they are probably trying to address this issue. many don't understand off road etiquette, which results in the 'few ruining it for the rest of us". i have a lifted '23 Rene TH, 10'' clearance, at tires, and belly protection, but i still stick to what i know. Plenty of lifted Jeeps etc out here, so i just don't want to get in the way on some trails, and i don't like crowded trails (which is damn near impossible to find). it sucks yeah, but i get it, and we can still have fun 'soft roading'. 😎✌

However, I have very limited experienced and attempted Ophir pass after speaking with a couple Jeep owners who thought I could make it. Grip was never an issue but some rocks I feared I did not have the clearance and decided to reverse back down. Looking at the photos of the spot I couldn't pass, as you say picking the right line would have gone a Long way. However the stress of others waiting to pass and being only with my wife on the drive added to the stress. I have a renegade TrailHawk, and this letter concerned me. I've been to Moab, and my stock Rene did Fins and Things, Poison Spider, Hells Revenge and a couple minor trails completely stock. Several times I took a bypass around an obstacle, but as you say, knowing you and your vehicle's limits is key. There were several people saying my little jeep isn't a true 4wd due to how the driveline operates. One concern I have is, what's next? Vehicles over a certain age not allowed? Older vehicles on average break down more often. I really think they need to make it on a case by case basis. Subaru Wilderness models for sure can do most 4x4 trails. Buick Encore GX not so much. Or require permits, vehicle inspections and set up a small mock obstacle set prior to the trail. If your vehicle makes it, you get the permit.
