Oh, a short walk from Prague, in front of the statue of Antonín Dvořák, is the old church... I think I've looked inside from the outside, but it was closed at the time...
While Dvorak is one of the popular composers of “classical music” among Americans, there is much of his music that is not as well known. This is particularly true of his vocal music: Moravian Duets, Requiem Mass, and Stabat Mater, also his piano works inspired by Czech folly music. Czech music also reflects many of the main events in Czech History. Mozart stated that he found the Czechs among the most naturally gifted musicians in Europe. Other examples: Smetana, Suk, Foerster, Janacek, Martinu.
The interpretation is magnificent. The musical sequence, music and chorus, leads us to a successively deeper feeling in this masterpiece of Dvorak. The soloists, the choir, the orchestra and their direction are superb. Thanks for this remarkable recording. The confluence of several influences may converge in this Requiem, not only the classical but also a certain slav component.
Its been 8 months since I finally decided to listen to it. I listen to it maybe 2-3 times a week and I still can't get over how powerfull this masterpiece is. To me, It would be hard to choose between this and his cello concerto!
@@vacciniumaugustifolium1420 Yes I agree with you. It is one of the most amazing Requiem! Regarding the Cello Concerto you should listen to Jacqueline du Pre performing this marvelous Concerto!
@@anandsamuel1978 yeah, it's a great interpretation for sure but to me, even if Jacqueline was a powerful cellist, extremely intense and expressive, Rostropovitch and his phenomenal technique got an edge over Jacqueline for the Dvorak concerto. In other words, Rostropovitch couldn't play the Edgar concerto on the same level as Jacqueline, but Jacqueline couldn't play the Dvorak concerto as flawlessly as Rostropovitch. Same thing for the Variation on a Rococo theme.
@@vacciniumaugustifolium1420 I agree with you that no two artists can play the same concerto identically and you rightly pointed it out in regards to Elgar and Dvorak. However here is something interesting I would like to share. Jacqueline du Pre studied with the greatest Cellists of her time and that being Pablo Casals, Paul Torletier and Mstislav Rostropovich! However what drew me close to Jacqueline and her immense talent was that it was cruelly snatched from her when she was just 28 by Multiple Scelrosis and that ended her wonderful career!
@@anandsamuel1978 Yeah, it's extremely sad indeed. I wish her death was quicker : It must have been very painful for her to not being able to play cello. Just listened to her interpretation of Kol Nidrei sooner today, what a powerfull interpretation, she really shined in this kind of piece.
Quite good characters and sound. Tempos are very well between chapters. Better than many performaces in RU-vid. Maybe Credo is too fast because of walking bass cant go satisfact
Used to be in love with that Mass about 40 years ago - and I agree - this is the best performance I have seen and heard so far. The warm and glorious environment of this beautiful Barock-Church enhances the feeling and the heart behind it. Is is possible that Mozart cowrote it from the beyond....?
Wonderful performance. I learned this in high school choir and it's amazing how listening to it again.....all most all of it comes back to me so easily and that was 40+ years ago.
This is the best performance of Schubert's mass in G Major in RU-vid so far. Great HD picture quality, high fidelity sound and skilled musicians. This is what I call art. Keep up the good work!
"high fidelity sound" Your dictionary apparently differs from mine. Not a bad interpretation, but is at least 720p (let alone 1080) REALLY too much to ask for choral music?
A superb performance of this beautiful work! I have loved this work since I first heard it in 1960. Thank you!! Děkují vám mockrát!! Ted Wilks, Programme Annotator, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster, PA, USA
