really agree. corecore was an attempt to end the accelerating cycle of "-core"s and it became like a gen z form of pop art, critiquing feeds and streams and information overload. The early work needs to be archived. It's an important movement. I hate the fact that it has become some kind of Manosphere self-help content now.
I'm a year late but damn bro, you described everything exactly the way I feel. I started watching one piece recently and whenever the OSts played, all I could think about was all the one piece brainrot I've been exposed to, we call memes. Couldn't take so many important scenes seriously. In the initial days of memes, it was cool but now with oversaturation of internet memes, they've not just ruined media but humor in general. Even when I'm hanging out with my friends everyone just forcefully tries to be funny by making some meme reference every other minute. It's not even funny, but since memes are so socially acknowledged by our generation, the bandwagon effect takes over and everyone just laughs anyway. Anyway, great video bro, I'll definitely subscribe :)
I'm glad I saw Boys S3 as it aired b/c all those memes would've made those scenes awkward. Unfortunately your example with Breaking Bad and Punisher, I couldn't fully engage myself b/c the memes
I was friends with the guy who made corecore before it became popular. it’s crazy cus we didn’t expect it to go up like that, seeing some of the first corecore edits become such a big thing. It took a complete 180 when corny edgy teenagers started making it a sad thing, when it was meant to spread joy
You kind of worded it perfectly, Brainrot is at the same time a mainstream comedy and a niche, just like with claxmcb and coopnoop, you need to understand the context and words used to find them really funny, but quanos is just absurdist humor. It kind of encapsulates the known and unknown all at the same time and people really can just laugh at how stupid it is, and kind of bond over that. I can’t really put it into words how it makes me feel but it feels like a distant cousin that I was friends with when I was younger and we have different humor now, but can join together and laugh at the same things. I don’t know, really good video tho and this is genuinely a really cool topic
