The kickstarters pay for wave 1 which is then sold at gencon. If they actually gave the backers wave 1 they would miss out on the revenue of gencon. It's the better business decision. But the customers lose. I'm done with kickstarter
You’re right - there is definitely a legit business reason for it, but the customer who supported it really should get it before some rando at Gen Con.
The Gate Ten problem goes way deeper than that...the Tuesday before Gen Con, they lost the lease to their main lot due to nonpayment of rent (or specifically, refusing to pay the difference after their rent was significantly increased last year). The lot was given to a different company, who was entirely unprepared to have what is now their lot completely booked for literally two days later. Initially, Horseshoe said they would NOT be honoring Gate Ten parking, but by Thursday morning they apparently changed their mind because they gave me a ticket when I showed up with my Gate Ten pass that was good for all four days. There were no in-and-out privileges, though, as Gate Ten was promising. (I still paid for them, though, since Horeshoe's daily rate was *less* than the Gate Ten prepaid rate but I obviously didn't get refunded the difference.) All told, it ended up alright, though I wish I'd known where the new shuttle drop-off was before Saturday.
The 2 things I'd add is.... 1) the convention center removes more and more chairs and areas to rest every year and replace it with open floor. These are gamers that dont have anywhere to sit and olay with friends except the floor. If the seating was replaced for a good reason, i get it. It seems they dont want people there. Walk around or leave. Because i saw them making people get up off the floor if it was an area they didnt want people gathering or resting. 2) save money of the game library pass. If you already have a game you want to play, there were always open tournament tables in the stadium no one was using. Its also the best area to sit down and relax, but it's quite a distance from the convention floor. In my opinion, take some of the demo tables immediately next to the convention floor and block it out for people to play games with friends. Have areas to game at a gaming convention. Rant over.
@theorderofgeeks 100% agree on both point. Looking back at my older GenCon photos, they definitely had more seating in the past outside the vendor hall. I bet its that overdramatic woman in the video who brought out security who made the decision to hide the chairs so they wouldn't get sat on. The games library was really nice, but we just didnt use it enough to justify the cost of it... Especially when they have the comfy church chairs right outside with plenty of open tables... Unless the overdramatic lady decides to take the nice chairs away next year!
I gotta say, I agree with Johnny about the extra space for gaming. I mean, at least during Gen Con they can store that little bit of stuff in a storage closet or something. And maybe advertise at Gen Con about their gaming space and, well you get the gist. And I'm with Mrs Sherpa on the tp situation! Too much is never enough!! As you could see, we were really struggling to find 10 bad things... Also was a bit of a spoiler to say Best Gen Con ever at the beginning of the video! LOL It would be nice to have more space. The area they have is small, but theres only a handful of people there... Maybe a bigger space would encourage more people - might be a good experiment next year... There have been hotel trips where the first roll of quadruple-ply TP ran out within 4 hours... Without any digestive issues from either of us... LOL
Sucks you have dietary restrictions. And REALLY sucks that you can't eat greasy foods. That's one of the perks of road trips! One of these years we're gonna have to go. We live pretty close too. But my wife never wants to take time off work. She's such a selfish jerk sometimes... jk, we joke like that all the time 😜
I’ve come to terms with my diet - I actually believe being careful because i have to has saved me from eating way too much junk… lol yeah joking with the missus is a perk of marriage ;) but Gen Con is such a cool thing for so many reasons!
I saw you walking past me at GenCon videoing and didn't want to stop you. Love the content! I sat in line for Slay the Spire and Comic Hunters every day and never got a copy.

I have no problem stopping and talking to people - especially if they’re being nice to me lol I had a feeling about Comic Hunter, so when I saw it at Barnes and Noble before I left for GenCon, I grabbed it and brought it up with me…. (And got my manual signed) After standing in line for King of New York back in 2015, and finding out they sold all their copies to people in the vendor room BEFORE the doors opened- I’d never wait in a line like that for a game again (promos yes, not games)
I don't believe in the supernatural, but I am entertained by haunted history stories. Especially around Halloween. What a great video! Like you said, the trip there is more exciting. The anticipation fueled your excitement. But on the way back you had memories AND all your cool new games!
Hey Donna, yeah I love the interesting history of places like that, but not the biggest believer in ghosts.. No Facebook Erik is pretty straight forward and debunks a lot of stuff - but he does believe he’ll find something provable someday
Awesome wrap up! Just a suggestion--can you make the outro jingle (the last thing we hear before the video ends) match the volume of the rest of the video? I had to turn my volume way up to hear you guys, but then felt like my ears were getting blown away at the very end. I appreciate your insights! It was my first Gen Con, and you're right; it's about the awesome people and the memories made.

By the end of editing i was on autopilot, and just figured it was fine since I used it so much in the past...I mustve hit the volume switch accidentally - i know I hate when i watch a video that does that :) I hope you had a great first Gen Con! If it was all about the games only, I'd have probably stopped after my first one ten years ago and just ordered stuff online... Playing with passionate people is the reason I keep coming back... Actually doing anything with people who are passionate about what they are doing makes a HUGE difference!

I know for sure there’s gotta be a better way for them to do this part. But I’m asking myself: do I really want them to have a shorter line or is it part of the anticipation that I would miss if a team of volunteers had a portable kiosk to check me in.
The worst part is that you can always avoid it… A lot of events came out after the initial batch of passes and tickets were mailed out… So you had to go there to pick up your event tickets…. As someone who is running event for the first time this year, there has to be a better process for that - I couldn’t scan my attendees tickets, and the deadline was over by the time I got back to my hotel…

I just posted 200+ pictures on my facebook page (and described them and tagged them - no easy task LOL) and I have a list of about 20 videos that I need to make LOL - Starting off slowly and then we get to the ones that may take a while to film and edit! The Lucha Wars Wrestling one is on the list, but I need some video files from No Facebook Erik :)

@jasongambit1 Thursday and Early Friday I was all over the convention center and Lucas Oil.... My own friends couldn't track me down via text - I was always on the move - There was just so much to see and do! By Sunday I was exhausted and only did 3 miles on that day LOL

When you figure out a confusing rulebook it gives an incredible sense of accomplishment. And then you have an awesome new game to play! There are several games that I almost gave up on. Anyway, if I get this game I'll definitely have to rewatch this video.

Showed up on Tuesday and was saddened to see the store closed. I used to drive an hour away to come to this store. Sorry to hear about the owners health and glad to see the store will reopen.
The problem with buying Rollacrit merch ahead of time is missing out on perks. I spent enough to get freebies but because I ordered ahead of time, I missed out.
@dlstc Thats a really great point - i didnt think of that...I got a bunch of freebies a a few years ago. I just don't have it in me to wait on that line so early in the convention when everything else is going on...
Good list. As well as bringing good, sturdy shoes, bring along a change of socks for each day. At 4PM when you change your socks your feet will feel reenergized and ready for the evening. You can thank me later.
