Hey everyone, my name is Roger Persad. I’m a street and documentary photographer and digital creative based in Toronto, Canada. Authenticity and equity are at the core of my work. I’ll share some tips I’ve gained over the years I’ve spent shooting on the streets in Toronto and around the world. You’ll learn a lot by observing my techniques, and likely have a laugh or two along the way!
This channel is about the joy of being on the streets, capturing authentic people, things, and moments, and helping to build a stronger street photography community here in Toronto, and globally, while having fun and growing along the way.

Let’s grow, and find that fleeting Street Poetry, together.
I’ve sat drinking coffee there a number of times. Did some long exposures from the counter without a tripod through the front windows (that are almost always spotless). Good coffee too!
Man wished it had some kind community down here like this man... awesome photo walk agaun roger...love thr street art also...brock is an awesome mentor yes...
Yeah re-uploaded as some of the featured photographers mentioned I got some tags etc wrong. Felt it was the best thing to do from a community perspective. You can check out Bryan's work and info on future photowalks on his Instagram. I share that in the description.✌🏾✌🏾
I started following you recently and have watched a lot of your videos. I really enjoy them. I lived in Toronto so they always bring back memories. Where can I find more information on Bryan's photowalks? Thanks and keep doing what you are doing.
Hey glad I can help jog those good memories of your former city of Toronto. You can check out Bryan's stuff on his Instagram, which I link in the video description. You should be able to find him on Eventbrite, where he posts his photowalks. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the city!👊🏾
Rule of odds are really a game changer .. awesome set the last one also had a group of complimentary colors and which was awesome as well no identity to which the three individuals was..I really liked the Cuba one also... color is hard but pays off..have a bless day breda
Bless bredda. Appreciate the kind words. Combining elements like odd numbers and use of colour can lead to good results! The last one definitely worked as well because of the complimentary primary colours - that's what first drew my eye when I saw that scene irl.
Just a note; while in the snap mode, everything beyond 1m is not in focus when you select 1m. The depth is determined by aperture again. So it's like the zone focusing technique but in digital. I'm sure you're aware but had to let know for new gr users or admirers... great photos, great video. peace!
Hey thanks! Glad you got something out of the video. I don't really use any filters for my GR, other than the built in ND when it's sunny - if that's what you meant. In terms of film simulations, I usually stick with the positive film option!
I didn't really appreciate the image quality out of the GR iii until I looked at it on a proper monitor/laptop. Smart phones are still nowhere near what these can do. And that's part of the beauty of the GR, it takes an experienced eye to appreciate the IQ sometimes.
There is no way when you look at the images on a screen or a TV, that the images from iPhone look better.. also with big prints you'll see the difference quickly
I have the griiix and love it for the size & the ibis. I hate it because its so much smaller than my XE1 and my 23mm f1.4 so i don't wan't to bring the fuji with me.
Lol I feel your pain. You get used to the small size of the GR and it's difficult to carry anything larger😂😊. The Fujis are for special occasions now😜😊
Yeah. U can use the electronic shutter and there won't be much of any sound. The reason I don't usually use that is because it can lead to odd things like banding in lights at certain shutter speeds. Also, it's just satisfying to hear and feel that shutter click!
Lovely review, thanks! I've had similar battery issues with mine, sometimes the camera would just switch off. Putting a small piece of paper on the top of the battery fixed that for me. It pushes the battery more firmly into the compartment and makes the connections better. Hoping that might work for you!
Whenever I hit the streets, I wasn’t focusing on blending into the environment, but the video explains how to blend and make use of your first advice to get good at this As always great to see your work/videos❤
I think the rebel with a small prime lens like a 35mm (fifty mm equivalent) would work for street. I used to shoot street with a Nikon 3100 DSLR with a prime lens, and it was discreet enough. If you can afford it though, I would recommend getting a mirrorless, maybe used? Reason being mirrorless are the standard now, they tend to be smaller than even the rebel DSLRs, and you can use the back LCD to help compose your shot, which can also help with being discreet.✌🏾
Yes bro that janeswalk was great. Didn't expect the RT to completely shut down not too long after. We all know how this city operates and whom it prioritizes.
Man this is a boss video ...tru tips ..i agree with especially a small setup even if is your phone or an older digicam... canon user here. Canon m50 is a nice discreet setup too .. ppl sometimes think i am a tourist
Yes Trini I agree. A phone or point and shoot works for street. I used my phone before I got the GR iii as my everyday carry. The m50 is a legendary mirrorless for canon. Lots of street guys still use it and produce great work. People thinking you're a tourist is another good tip! 👊🏾
You are malvern if you name off a minimum of 10 original vendors from 1987 and have long gone. 1) super carnival 2) wine rack 3) t-shirt country 4) shoppers drug mart 5) st.cinnamon 6) zellers 7) rizvi electronics (nobody ever bought the dj mixer in the window btw…went down with the ship) 8) McDonald’s 9) consumers distributing 10) Japan camera 11) rapid photo Shout out to John Palmer men’s clothing. He’s been there since 1987🎉
Lol 10 huh? Let's see... Food city, super computer hour, rock and soul, biway, smokers world, no frills, consumers, ace driving school, cut creators, Rogers video, athletes world, macs. Thanks for the nostalgia trip 😜😊
Still have to Visit Scarborough Spots myself, this video reminds me of simplier times, times we spent not staring at our phones for hours on end, thanks Roger!
Scarborough Spots is worth a visit. They have a cool IG friendly storefront. Beware tho that their inventory was low the two times I visited. Simpler times indeed.🙏🏾
Ah yes the beautiful smells of a bustling Kensington Market. I really wish it could come through the screen. Maybe the next version of apples Vision Pro 😂😜
@trinitek Yes, I thought about that but it's gonna be expensive I would. Sure the 40mp and IBIS would be great but I already have a Z5 and with my 28mm 2.8 on it or me getting the 26mm 2.8 to make it even slimmer, I can't me myself dropping that when I could just wait and upgrade my z5 to the z6 iii. If you didn't sell me on this I was 🤏🏽 close to grabbing the Canon GX1 Mii for my upcoming trip!
I see. For portability, the Ricoh can't be beat. I stand by that. In the real world, tucking that thing in your pocket makes all the difference between choosing to carry (lug) your camera all day, or not.
Just the photos. The video was a gopro. I wouldn't recommend the griii for videos. Take a look at the intro of the recent community photowalk video I did, and the parts where I'm talking to the camera - those were shot on the griii and are not very good quality!
