I just must take my car over from the English mainland (London) and drive there. The Shanklin Chine looks absolutely magical. When I think of the Chine, I think of the fabulous music of the band Level 42, who have their origins on the Isle of Wight.

When you get there just leave your car where you are staying and take the public transport, walk as they have the greatest marked trails ever. Just take your time while there it’s a great place to unwind and forget. Even turn off your phone and use your eyes ( & ears) for the beauty around you and not that screen which most people cannot stop being glued too.

It's well worth making a brief detour off the Coast Path just before you get to Blackgang Chine by heading up the hill to the remains of St. Catherine's Oratory (aka "The Pepperpot") which is England's only remaining Medieval lighthouse. On a really clear day you can see all the way along the Dorset Coast as far as the Isle of Portland and, looking north-east, to the Surrey Hills at Hindhead.

The old Parish Church at St. Lawrence - once the smallest in England, and named after the Archdeacon of Rome who was martyred by being roasted on a gridiron - is well worth a visit! The congregation kindly provides free biscuits and squash as part of its "Ministry of Welcome" for walkers and cyclists.

A great series of videos, thank you. I’ve walked the whole of the IOW coastal path and this section is my favourite. I haven’t been to the island for a few years but it’s all so familiar and it’s interesting to so how the path has changed due to coastal erosion.

Shanklin Chine, opened to the public back in 1817, was the Isle of Wight's first tourist attraction. It's a deep, narrow cleft in the Cretaceous Lower Greensand rocks which was carved out by glacial meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age. On a hot day in Summer the Chine is beautifully cool and shady. Where the stream which flows through the Chine reaches the sandy, safe bathing beach there's a thatched pub called the Fisherman's Cottage which offers reasonably-priced food and drink.

I'm just back from visiting the Isle of Wight for the first time, l loved the island and I'll be back. The Chine waterfalls looked fantastic, much better than seen here in this video, as there had been some days of very heavy rain.

This brings back so many memories. We went with my Mom and our daughter when she was little. We have been to the fishermans cottage pub at the bottom. We have stayed in Shanklin many times. We have been there for Halloween and walked in the dark by the chine which made it magical. The first time ever on the Isle of Wight is indeed magical and I hope to go back again a few times. We have been there at Easter times and summer times too .................. its my husbands families tradition to go there.

Fantastic. We used to holiday here in the 60’s as young boys with Mum and Dad and remember sitting in the children’s section of Chine Inn during evenings and looking out across the chine and dreaming of smugglers etc.

Its great that you started at the rail station. If a map could be added that would be of great help to those who want to do the walk, especially people like myself who cant walk far and cant drive but might be able to do part of the walk. It would be good to know where you can find a seat, shelter from rain, get a drink of water,/ food & use toilets etc. Things that people without vehicles really need to know as we cant really wonder around far trying to find such things. The video is tremendously usefull for seeing what the terrain and walking conditions are like. Thankyou very much for making this available. It is very pleasant to watch this as a little video outing and Im certain a lot of people will also find it of great practical use.
