I think this movie - being Gable's last - was a fitting exit, and testament to him, his love of the craft and perfect ending for the golden age of movie making into the new.
I heard that Marilyn was being blamed for everything on that film. Apparently John Houston had a big problem with his drink/gambling until the early hours of the morning. He lost alot of money which was past onto the production costs. Also he kept changing the scripts right up to the last minute. It was easy to blame Marilyn for it all. 🙏❤
Well, Marilyn was supposedly late to the set every single day. Her addictions ended up with Huston shutting down the production while she went for detox. She wasn't the only problem, just a big part of the problem
It is a magnificent movie. I dont think the wider public identify the quality of acting, storyline and direction here because it is easy to badge the lead roles as more sensational than the movie itself. Clark Gable is superb here, Montgomery Clift had never been better and, in my view, this is Marylin Monroe's best performance, eclipsing her otherwise finest hour in Bus Stop
The fact that this movie, stories and actors were broken makes this film genius and precious all these years later. Even the paddle ball scene was sad. You can’t compare this movie to anything else.
Im already looking forward to this Documentary.. I met Eli Wallach and his wife Ann Jackson several times. He was not only a wonderful and talented actor, he was a true Mensch..
I've made several attempts to watch The Misfits over time, but couldn't get into it and aborted on each occasion - I was a teen when it premiered. But having seen this fascinating documentary I watched the movie through fresh eyes and relished every frame - a cinematic treasure. The reason - the documentary illustrates in detail the back story to the film's making and highlights the parallels linking the screen characters with the real lives of the actors - which in hindsight adds a deep poignancy to the movie. Plus the documentary draws attention to the subtleties of the dialogue, which went flying over my head on the occasions I tried watching the movie prior. This time round I was fully immersed in the film and understood the emotions, the pathos, the anger and the disappointment and desperation of the characters and the underlying aimlessness of their existences. It often takes time for a film to mature and finally surface as a highly regarded piece of cinema. Like so many situations in life, we need the passing of time in order look back and see things through more thoughtful eyes. Thanks for uploading this documentary. I'll be watching the movie again when my recent viewing has settled down in my head and I'm ready to look further beneath the surface.
That final scene, as Gable and Monroe drive away in the desert, makes me cry every time! BOTH of them will soon be dead in REAL LIFE. The biggest male and female stars of their time! And I wouldn't be surprised if ol' Thelma Ritter is still alive today! Ha! 😮
I don't like him. He let her down. Then remarried soon after their divorce she was left to fend for her self. The new your Jews him Strasburg. Exploited and confused her. She should have stayed in Hollywood .
Mm was no innocent woman neither she went after him knowing he was married too what did she think he was going to do to her they both deserve each other
It's should have been called the (OUT CASTS).MOST OF THEM ARE DEAD REST IN PEACE TO THEM 🙏🕊🦋🌹GODBLESS THEM ALL ESPECIALLY MARYLIN .MAY SHE BE UNITED WITH HER MOTHER AND HAPPY AGAIN🙏❤🕊🦋😴🕊🕊🦋🦋🌹🌹🙏🙏AMEN
Miller wrote a pretentious terrible story based on simplistic psychology. It lacked any true narrative, insight or cohesion. The interaction of outsiders should have revealed underlying contradictions & flaws, but this was made superficial. Even Marilyn complained about the ludicrous screaming scene as hysterical rather than emotion, she was right. The film was meant to showcase her as a serious character, this was impossible as her part was a caricature of how she had been presented. The film showed Millers complete lack of understanding & empathy for dispossessed people. Also Marilyn thwarted herself as she had a constructed personality designed into childlike glamour of sexual appeal, she was either unable or afraid to access her past emotions into her roles which made her two dimensional. The movie How To Marry A Millionaire completely lost the sarcastic humour of the book, but that was mainly the scriptwriter's fault, it should have been the perfect vehicle for her..
Arthur Miller made disparaging statments regarding Marilyn Monroe in his diaries that she found out about during their brief marriage. He could not be trusted by her thereafter.
Marilyn Monroe her mental illness was not being navigated properly, her medications, physcotherapy. It was a disaster that ultimately lead to her untimely death.
this is rare. It really is. This was the only movie where she wore a wig. They messed up her hair pre-production. But Whitey was there. Her make up man Allen "Whitey" Snyder, who did a lot of her make up during her career .They were best mates. And looking at this - she really did have an inner glow about her. No matter where she was, in films or photographs - she lights up. It's really magical.
Marilyn wore a wig in the Prince and the showgirl ,the wigs for the misfits where styled by Sidney guilaroff and put on and maintained by Agnes Flanagan on location. Marilyn hair had been badly damaged during the filming of let's make love and wigs where easier for a location shoot. Marilyn was buried in one of these wigs.
What a disgusting narcissist! Even after her death he speaks ill of her. She was a happy, charming person before meeting him. He never stood by her side as a loving husband would have done. He didn't even have the decency to show up for her funeral. "She won't be there!" You, moron! Did you attend your parents's and friend's funeral? Were THEY there? Why not even saying the final goodbye? Intellectual guy, my ass! Nothing but a narcissistic pig who used Marilyn!
What are they talking about? The Mifits is one of the best movies ever made? They also cut the best moment in the phonebox scene. The Misfits is a classic. Montgomery Cliff, ahhhhh.....Thanku every1 involved.
