Pretty disappointed I wasted my time on this. The entire book is spent getting you to feel sympathy for the main character only to twist it into socialist propaganda. I see why this is a popular book for high schools.
I got a copy of this book for Christmas 1979.I read it in one sitting.I thought about what a good movie it would make.I even did some potential casting for the time,heavily using the cast from Animal House.I would have had Tim Matheson as Equality 7-2521,Pete Riegert as International 4-8818,James Daughton,(Gregg Marmalard)as the Saint of the Pyre, and Mark Metcalf(Neidermeier)asCollective 0-0009, the obnoxious spokesman for the scholars. I would also have cast Kevin Bacon (Chip Diller)as Solidarity 9-6347,who calls for help in the night, and Tom Hulce(Larry"Pinto"Kroger) as Fraternity 2-5503,who has crying spells.
