Great video,Jeff....Still playing and teaching at 73 years old....What I did for my Real Feel pad,I placed a 13'' old drum head under the pad, and it brings the pad up beyond the rubber prongs on the snare stand....Try it......Ralph Onofrio.
Love this, Jeff. I personally love practice pads. With 2 kids, it’s generally my only option. I also have way too many of them, which is a story for another day. We should do a pad hang!
Super cool lesson and video - and a anecdotal reinforcement of how this technique sticks - a good while ago when you showed us this technique Flex (and JD and Nick) titled it "drop the heel and play for real". Recently i set up my kit after a decade plus without playing - it was humbling for sure - but the one muscle memory retained was this technique. Thanks for posting this video!
Groovy. I learned a beat similar to this in high school - but it certainly wasn't with any independence. I mapped every hand/foot combo until I could do it. It will be interesting to see how things feel 35 years later when I try this one. Thanks for the tips.
I dig how the kick volume leading into the quarters is slightly diminished in velocity - giving the quarters extra punch. Many don't tap into this isness.
When learning this one - it helped me to put the ride pattern on my HH until I felt good about the rhythmic accuracy. Keeping the noise thin for a while was money for the metrics.
