bob here, and big THANKS for visiting my RU-vid Channel. It's an honor to have this great opportunity to get fingerpicking guitar lessons out to you, and... I try never to lose the main focus of trying to help you play fingerstyle guitar. My best advice is to go slow, even though the tendency is to try to go fast. This is especially, a very useful method of eliminating mistakes right from the beginning. Skip this part, and you could be spending a lot longer trying to play better. ... don't worry, we go over this in the videos. You put in the time, and have a good time...
If you ever need help, just comment below any video and you'll get a answer pretty quick. Happy Pickin' !! bob
OMG. This was so much fun! You just cranked up the tempo and it was laughably crazy trying to keep up. I practiced and practiced and could finally do it. Well...at least once. ;-)_
I can always tell when someone is going to do well on the guitar- that is you Lincoln. I love your enthusiasm and drive to get to the goal and, it's wonderful that you are having fun too. Thanks for letting me know what happened and please keep me posted on your progress... if you continue like this, nothing but good will come to you.!!! happy teacher😀🎸!!
whenever i touch the strings on the neck at all no sound comes from those strings, even if im just resting my fingers with no pressure at all nothing comes from those strings. anyone know why?
Hi zack j, there's many reasons why you are getting no sound out of your strings. One obvious one from how you are describing would be, you must pick/pluck the strings with your other hand to make a sound. In modern fingerstyle, an advanced technique called "tapping" is used by guitarists to resonate the strings with just your left hand. It's also called a "hammer on" where you aim your finger just below a fret and press swiftly and hard at a string to make a sound. But before you can do this style, you have to be able to play the guitar the regular way first. It also could be from your description that you are not trying to "tap" or hammer on, and just trying to play my lesson here. If that's the case, what happens when you don't use your left hand and just pick the notes (like I show) with your right hand? Let me know okay. You are also welcome to send me a video with your phone (this would really help me understand what you are talking about?????) There's also many more reasons for your no sound issue.. Let me know okay... I'm here to help.. bob
Hi Rey Anthony, I call it A5 in these lessons but it's also called Asus2. In fingerpicking, it all depends on which strings you pluck as that changes the chord name. Main thing here is to get your fingers to play it as the name is not so important right now.. I hope this helps!! bob
Hi Mari, thank you for taking the lessons with me. The full course with all the study guide notes underneath the video lessons are now located at fingerpickingwithbob.com . Just sign in and you will see the course there. If you need any help, please let me know.. bob
Hi Lovin it, I'm sorry for the delay as I've been on a road trip without a cell phone and just got back home. So happy my voice and lessons are not annoying you - ha ha!! Wishing you all the best on your guitar and hope you keep going!! If you need any help, please let me know! bob
What a great teacher!!! Clearly not your typical RU-vid teacher who is rushy with no intent on imparting the learner with practical and demonstrable knowledge and skills. He only ends up showing off his skills and leaving the learner intimidated and discouraged. This teacher tells you what you need to know and goes on to show it to you in a clear and slow fashion. Very motivational.
Hi Isidore, wow, what a nice comment here! I'm happy that the lessons are going at the right pace for you! I do try to make it like you are in the room with me taking a private lesson. But you know there's a lot of people that have commented over the years that I'm going too slow. O well, you can't please everyone. I think this slow and not leaving anything out detail is what most people need when they are first learning guitar. Wishing you all the best and if you need any help or have a question, please let me know- glad you are here!! bob
Hi Daniel, thank you for taking the lessons here and glad you found my site. I am wishing you all the best with your fingerpicking and if you need any help, please let me know.. Happy pickin' !! bob
Hi Rose, happy to hear that the video helps. The pattern can also works on a uke. Best of luck finding a guitar and hope you will come back for fingerstyle here! bob
Thanks master for your slow and close up viewing lessons. I want to learn about scales from basic to high end. Could you pls give some videos on RU-vid.😊
Hi Durer, Glad you are enjoying the lessons! I haven't made a lesson video in a while but do plan on coming back. I will add this to the request list... good idea.. bob
Thank you so much! As someone who's a leftie plying my guitar using my right hand, this tutorial is really great and easy to follow! I hope you have a wonderful day! Take care!
Hey Jason, thank you so much ! I'm guessing you are doing well with the lessons here!!! Please let me know if you need any help- I'm wishing you a great guitar weekend + beyond! bob
These are awesome lessons. I have played 'strummed' guitar for decades and I always was interested in the picking, but was intimidated. Thank you for explaining it to where it makes more sense.
Hi Jane, I'm so happy that the lesson helps you for the fingerpicking. Wishing you all the best on your guitar and if you need any help, please let me know. happy pickin' !! 😀🎸 bob
Hey Darryl, really happy to hear that you are doing so well on the Billy Hill song!! I made a very crude video lesson for Rabbit but never published it to RU-vid. I could send you that and the sheet music if you want? Just email me at acousticguitarvideos@gmail.com. Best guitar regards!! bob
@@deploynz Blessings to you too! If you ever need help, just let me know. BTW, the whole series is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z7xm_juNcPY.html
Hi CHOLA, sorry- this was my first video and only knew what I was doing with the guitar lesson and not the camera and lighting. Hope you will still give this a try. bob
This is the main problem most people have with music but it can be learned. I suggest taking one part at a time and going slow with it. If you need any help, please let me know and wishing you all the best.. bob
Hi Fla, thank you for taking the lesson here. I'm sorry for the giant delay as I am now just seeing your comment here. At 7:30 in the video I'm tapping out approximately 58 Beats Per Minute on the metronome. I recommend to go even slower if you are having any issues keeping up. Hope this helps! bob
Great comment here...There's certainly some shortcomings for both methods of string identification- one with identifying the string by pitch would be- what happens if you use an alternate tuning and are replacing/changing strings? Also what happens if you use a capo... do you call out the capo notes or the original open stringed notes? And then the downfall of just knowing the number designation for the strings doesn't tell us what the actual note pitch is. So really and ultimately a person will have to remember both (any pack of strings will have both). Wishing you all the best on your guitar and thanks again for the great comment! bob
@@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons I hope so! I just turned 46 and treated myself to my first first (electric) guitar. I love the way you do/explain things! Much love from the UK
@@Purple_Wellies Congratulations on the new guitar- very exciting!!! This has been a very busy last 6 months for me with a lot of traveling and shows. I've got a few new ideas for lessons when I get back to it!! Love from the US..!!
Hello, Bob. Do you still have any of the documents available for this? I used to have a couple of sheets that I downloaded and printed which I used for practicing. It was always near my guitar, but I got busy and haven't picked up my guitar in a while and can no longer find my sheets. I think I got it originally from a link on "Let's Play Guitars Together- Study Guide V1.3, but I don't see any links for it now. Thanks for everything, Morgan
Hi Morgan, great to hear from you and glad you are back on the guitar! This last year I had to retire the study guides (for a number of reasons). But I do have the Let's Play Guitars course on my new website Fingerpickingwithbob.com which is my free membership site. The course now has all the study guide material conveniently underneath the video lessons, so unlike people who had trouble in the past getting lost between youtube and the study guide, there's now no way to get lost. I'll look out for you on the site and when I see your name, I'll unlock that course for you- Glad you are back!! bob
Hey Jason, WOW, thank you so much for this, so very thoughtful of you!! It's got to mean that you were able to play the pattern (or at least a part of it). Please if you need any help, let me know okay. The whole series is here and I hope you keep going: ru-vid.com/group/PLx1uwVXECJKjECVns43Kc6_f0X5bs6Ktl Wishing you all the best on your guitar!!! bob
I have been diligently playing for a little over a year and have been making progress. I broke my left hand ( fret ) last week. This will keep my journey growing. Thank you very much!
Hey M Zieg, great to hear from you and thank you for taking the lessons here. I don't know how much time you spent on this one video, but I generally tell everyone to slow down and get one part at a time correct first before moving ahead. Some people can move ahead quickly while some people move a lot slower. But no matter how fast or slow anyone learns, the basic idea is to get in the reps and enjoy the process. If that's what you are currently doing then I say you are doing great. But if you are struggling though and not having any fun, please let me know because I can help. So the first question I have is and since you are on this lesson 1A, how did you do with lesson 1 of Fingerpicking For Beginners? Let me know okay... wishing you all the best on your guitar! bob
