Hi, Living close to the B&H line that's where most of my filming takes place. There is also filming from UK Freight hotspots, Heritage Diesel Gala’s,Railtours and anything else out of the ordinary local to me. Thanks & enjoy
Thanks for sharing this footage. I was actually planning to help out on this railtour but other circumstances unfortunately meant I couldn't. Thanks for filming and sharing Dave 👍🏻
Cheers Ben,it was a good day & the weather improved greatly,30mins before it passed Crofton it was lashing it with rain.Had to take a cordless hedge trimmer to access this location though lol They’ll be other trips mate I’m sure,Catch you soon, cheers Dave👍🏼
The triple Gronkage on brake vans was amusing. I like how they all have slightly different tone whistles. But goodness, i think 08288 needs looking at before long. 🤔
Well that was bloody great because for two reasons Dave, I haven't been to a gala on this railway since the late 90s so it was good to see footage from around the stations as I know there are not many places out in the countryside you can get to. Also it was good to see three class 50s at a station. Maybe I should give it a go next year, cheers Mike.
Thanks Mike, not been there before so was a step into the unknown, did some research on google earth which showed limited places to film. The only real place was the foot crossing and there was a note on the website that the farmer would take action against trespassers! So around the stations it was & not too bad as you can see, would have preferred to go on Friday but the weather wasn’t as good as Sunday.Nice to see 3 50’s, a Stratford 47 & a 59 but did like the triple shunters.Cheers Dave
I see why to went out Dave, hope you didn't get to wet, or did you have your shorts and wellies on. Do you get a extra doubleheader in the afternoon now, cheers Mike.
No not too bad thanks & it had stopped by the time I walked up Savernake. Its pot luck on the day what’s on it have seen single 59 or 66 on all.Don’t normally see V70 as gone home by then as its 2hrs plus after V60.Cheers Dave
Very interesting video Dave, I knew about the railtour with the Western but didn't take any notice where it was going so it was a great watch for me, cheers Mike.
Cheers Mike, not your everyday Railtour destination but totally worthy, the ESR put on an excellent day so congrats to them.Always a pleasure to film traction that I was bought up on back in the 70s. Cheers Dave
Interesting watch Dave, I say that because I've been to West Drayton twice so it was good to see how you got on. You got working which happened during the morning, as my time was after midday. A great video with footage you got outward and return. Regards Mike.
Thanks Mike,it was a decent day despite the early cancellations & I didn’t end up where I’d intended to go.Its still quite a busy area for freight and always good to see a 50.Regards from Poland,Dave👍🏼
Yes Dave we had a great day, I thought the weather was ok as I don't remember it raining that day, it was good for me to see your footage as we didn't always film in the same places. I've been called a few things during my time filming trains but never a legend Dave, so cheers for that regards Mike.
Thanks & agree it’s good to see the original 59/0s still working hard at almost 40 years old.I did check recently on the gradients from a Foster Yeoman book I have,I will recheck & post when I’m back from holiday. Thanks for watching😎👍🏼
That was from 10:30 to 17:30,there are a few large gaps between some workings but at least it gives you time to change position and get some lunch. Thanks for watching😎👍🏼
That's the beauty of Open Train Times or Traksy. You know when a train is on it's way and have time do things like take lunch or travel to your destination and set up the shot, all without missing any of the action
Excellent video Dave!! Nice variety of freight trains on your line. I don't know 59103 was the last loco in Hanson livery unless 104 went up in freightliner orange livery. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Arnold,it was a good day😎Yes 103 is the last in Hanson livery & due to go for repaint soon.101 is green with G&W branding.102 is orange with G&W branding & 104 which was released from the paint shop on Tuesday is orange also with no G&W branding after the split,104 also has no white cab numbers. Thanks for watching.Dave😎👍🏼
So you made it to this gala then Dave, so good to see your footage as its been a very long time since I attended a gala at the WSR, and I remember most of the places you did your filming. So thanks Dave for covering this day at the WSR, regards Mike.
Yes we made the trip down for the day Mike, weather not the best on Friday but as we know it’s a lottery these days for planning a day out lol An enjoyable day but would do it differently next time.Cheers Dave👍🏼
Noticing the lack of people leaning sensibly out of the windows shows why I will never go on another railtour. They're more like glorified coach tours these days which totally misses the point of why we used to love train travel in the good old days of BR. OTT H&S regulations has killed this type of rail travel for me.
This. Honestly I too don't see the point of Railtours anymore, if you can't even see the loco your travelling behind then why bother. The problem is that people no longer take responsibility for their own safety and if someone was to get injured or killed, they or their family would go after the tour operator for compensation in court. Which would likely put an end to that tour operator. I would like to see some sort of compromise reached, even if passengers have to sign a disclaimer saying that they understand the risk of leaning out of open windows and the tour operator can not be held responsible. Similar to theme parks etc. Even writing this, it sounds pathetic but unfortunately it's just how the world is now with sueing culture. Also of note in this video is the crew hanging out of the rear cab window. Yeah sometimes I get that train crew may need to lean out of their window in some saftey critical circumstances such as checking if the rear of the train has passed a speed restriction. However here it seems like one rule for them and another rule for the others, no safety critical duties were bieng undertaken due to the fact the crew were filming it on a mobile phone. It's not the first time I've seen it as well, I put the lens of my camera out of a droplight to film a charter journey one time. I did it for about 20 seconds before a steward came and told me off and told me to immediately sit down in a seat. I was really pissed off when I reviewed my footage from the day when I got home and guess what, on the video I took when the train was arriving into the station where I boarded, the exact steward that told me off for putting my camera lens out was window hanging. It wasn't even necessary for them to do it aswell, because that's the duty of the Guard to observe the trains arrival, not some random steward.
Also of note, if you have the means to do so, then get yourself out into Europe. There are plenty of opportunities to lean out of open windows. Here's a few examples: The Douro Valley line in Portugal. This line uses the Portuguese version of the class 20, some of which were built at the Vulcan Foundry. Great for EE thrash and the scenery is world class. They sometimes leave the carrige doors open too allowing you to go one step up and door hang A class 47 was exported to Hungary (47375) and usually does one Railtour a year. The "European Sleeper" currently has stock with openable windows although it's European Electric traction. Plenty of other countries such as the Czech Republic who still have trains with openable windows.
Not been on a Rail tour since being ticked off by a steward as Western Champion climbed from St Davids to Central. Totally pointless especially now they incarserate you in coffins. Will go and watch Champion while she is on mainline, so I can hear and see it.
I know what you mean but it’s a sign of the times I think with H&S gone mad! You can see why the galas are so popular these days👍🏼Thanks for watching😎👍🏼
@@berksandhantsfreight Galas are getting that way too, SVR had security and the ELR staff were attempting to stop window hanging at their last Summer Gala
Thanks Ben,Its a great location with the 68s as an added bonus along with a varied amount of freight,i just wish the weather would be kinder when i visit! Cheers Dave👍
As you know Dave I like filming at this royal town, so to me this is a outstanding video, and you got some sun towards the end of your stay. take care Mike.
I do like this location as well Mike & is a handy place to pop to when visiting relatives in the area.Yes the sun did "briefly" make an appearance,i don't seem to have much luck with the weather here lol Cheers Dave👍
@@berksandhantsfreight Yep; I saw her at Swanage recently, and managed to get a short clip. When I was growing up, lived in Maidenhead on Paddington main line. Westerns, Warships, Hymeks were the staple. The sounds still linger; but we HATED those bloody Hoovers that usurped them!
Great footage Dave. It's always good to catch something a bit unusual and different. Seeing wagons stabled on a loop is unusual as well and normally a big no no from NR but considering the circumstances it's understandable. Thanks for sharing. All the best. Ben
Thanks Ben,I hadn't gone out to catch this but was in the area when the VSTP went in so called in to catch it & a 1st for me to catch something crossing over from the up to the down.Cheers Dave👍🏻
I like your videos because I like seeing trains from around the world. Lot of stone hauling. I haul stone in summer months but only 40,000 lbs at a time lol. Good work thanks
Well Dave you have had a lot of interest in this video, and why not its a brilliant account of your weekend starting at BTM and finishing at Westbury on the way home. top stuff mate, cheers Mike.
Thanks Mike,it was an excellent day & well worth the trip down despite the delays lol Result with Delay Repay as well,100% refund so happy days😎👍 Cheers Dave
