The vid answers this question: a. Draw a Born-Haber cycle for aluminium oxide. b. Calculate a value for the lattice energy of aluminium oxide using the data under the arrows in the sequences above and given that ΔHf [Al2O3] = -1676kJmol^-1. Remember that there are 2 moles of Al^3+ ions and 3 moles of O2- ions in 1 mole of Al2O3. -1676 Jmol^-1 is the lattice of formation and we need the lattice energy. For more about the lattice energy you can watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_uk3xlPBi9U.html
To understand the difference, think about sodium chloride (NaCl). The lattice energy is the amount of energy required to completely break apart this crystal into its individual gaseous ions (it is always positive because breaking bonds release energy). Whereas, the enthalpy change of formation is the overall change involved in the formation of NaCl crystals including separating Na and Cl2 into atoms, ionize sodium by removing electrons and electron affinity rreleased during converting chloride atom to ion, and lattice formation to bring Na+ and Cl- and arrange them into crystal lattice. ΔHf (given) = ΔH1 (total enthalpy) + ΔHlattice (need to calculate)
Hi, do you mean the toolbars to the side? If so, you will find x on the top of toolbar you can simply click it, or you can click view on the top toolbar and uncheck view toolbar icons you don’t need. For example uncheck view > other toolbars > colors . You also can go to window > cascade it will show you full page.
Thanks for sharing! Have you thought about including an extra visual showing the electron orbital shapes? Those have always helped me understand how many electrons are in each and their typical bond types 😊
Thanks for your suggestion. It's indeed a good idea. I believe I should create a separate video, separate from this course, explaining the relationship between chemical bonds and orbitals rather than atomic levels.
@sharescience9945 Actually, I'd like to invite you to create a short video explaining chemical bonding and orbital distribution the way you remember it. Offering a another perspective can provide students with an alternative angle to understand these concepts better. Please feel free to email the video to us at explained.chemistry@gmail.com. You can include on the first slide that it's a contribution from your channel, and we'll be happy to add a link to your channel in the video's description.
Thanks, @sharescience9945! I try to keep my slides engaging, but your animated videos are truly amazing. They make science so much fun! Everyone check out amazing sicence facts at www.youtube.com/@sharescience9945
In an effort to align with university textbooks, we have primarily used common names over the IUPAC systematic nomenclature. However, we will incorporate IUPAC naming in our future work. Thank you.
Hi Jenny, This is a part of the lecture for the advanced level in polymer chemistry. The full course can be found on the Explained chemistry website explainedchemistry.com/chemistry-courses/introduction-to-polymer-chemistry/ or on Udemy: www.udemy.com/course/introduction-to-polymer-chemistry/ You can enroll in "Principles of polymer chemistry" for beginners: explainedchemistry.com/chemistry-courses/principles-of-polymer-chemistry/
I am using ChemDraw Pro 8.0 (I know it's pretty outdated but it still works even on Win10) and I don't have this "Convert Structure to Name" option in "Structure" menu. Is there any way to activate the function via some downloadable plug-in, or do I have to get a newer version of the whole program? If the latter, from which oldest version does ChemDrawe have this feature in case I don't want the most recent avalible version?
@@learnchemi Now it wants mer to locate ChemDraw Items folder...don't you have a full-fledged portable version where I don't have to deal with these inconvenient settings?
Your testimony means a lot to me, thank you! I graduated from science school chemistry department as well, I think I love studying because I continued till I got my PhD😅. I want you to know with hard work you can exceed me. Allah rewards the hard work. I wish you success and better luck than I had in my life 🙂
ms can u also please make videos on tips for practicals/ explain practical papers for AS CIE and how to draw tables in a way that would guarantee getting a full mark every time
Hi Mariam; we found you a link for chemistry exercises hope it can help you in preparing for your exam. Good luck from all of our team. The link: www.cracksat.net/sat2/chemistry/
this is literally like 100 dollars worth of tuition AND ur doing it for free, I loveeeee u ms Merciiii gedan gedannn ur the reason why I have been getting straight A's in AS chemistry
