Oh, man! So many great tips in this video! I love the part around the 15-minute mark where Marcus talked about trying to develop his own style and not realizing he already had! Gold! And the stuff that he said to the third student about respecting the ideas, giving them space to breathe, and developing them. Awesome. I always loved Marcus' playing. Now I love him even more!
Hey Marcus. I think you should do A Tribute to Tyrome Branson. he was A great bass player. Fresh and sticky situation. I think it would be nice man. but you are my Favorite Bass Player.
In less than 15 minutes you helped me put technique behind all the pieces I’ve been picking up all these years. Thanks to Marcus and his students. God’s grace is sufficient. 😮
I love that this man stands behind his basses. So often a musician will get a deal to make a "signature bass" or "signature guitar" and then they themselves never use it. Their name on the headstock is just an advertisement at that point. Marcus Miller plays Sire basses live and uses them all the time in demos and it shows how proud he is of the product. Sire's guitars are fantastic instruments. I've never played a better $500 bass than the V5.
Not only an amazingly hip video featuring Marcus’s ability to reach a player at their level & lift them up, but positive! And where pray tell did he get that way hip MJ shirt???❤❤
Do you remember a black bass player at Cape town Jazz festival after party in the Cape Sun hotel. you put his hand in the air his name was Spencer Badu.
He can take any song and make it his own. Such a beautiful arrangement. They key changes... Genius. The pure emotion he puts into it. Genius. We'll be seeing A LOT of Jacob in the future I know. My favorite part... "And you're the only one who YOU'RE the only one who (goes up) YOU'RE the only one.... Who knows. If Billy Joel heard this I'm sure he was beyond impressed where Jacob Collier took his song.
Love Marcus Miller, 1 of my favorite electric bassists of all time. I grew up listening to him when he was a musician with GRP during the late 1970s..playing with Lee Ritenour, Bernard Wright and Tom Brown Jamaica Funk.. same with Christian McBride, Marsalis Brothers..I love jazz every since I was 13..I am proud of Marcus, Christian, Wynton, quite a few others. cats born in the 50s, 60s and 70s keeping jazz live and teaching a new generation.. like Art Blakey with The Jazz Messengers.. excellent tutorial Marcus🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶
I was there! Wa family with kid at Berkeley. Spent father’s Day weekend with him and he got us tickets. We were sitting above drummer. Totally amazing musicians! Love visiting SF and I really liked this Penguins show. Worth seeing these guys when on this side of the pond for sure.
Where can I sign up for one of these “camps?” MM and I have only a few months difference in age. I came up on drums, mostly listening to bass. I’ve “heard” him for what seems like a lifetime but only learned how MUCH I’ve heard him as recently as five years. As I come to grips with my shame, I keep telling myself that I wasted far too much time trying to become a great basketball player.
