What a wonderful group. RIP Mary, your talent was magical. And wow, this host a bit of a creep. lol I mean I guess it was more accepted back then, but he really made her uncomfortable after he grabbed on her. You can even see her look at the other girls in the group once he doesn't let go. It was just a different time then, but still a bit icky to see happen.
I'm really appreciating these guys and this song but after listening to Halloween music all month I realized this is not the only song about Jack the Ripper that portrays him as a "real gone cat" or something similar. These guys normalized jokey songs about serial killers😅
Finally I get to hear the live vocals of Estelle and Nedra. They sound so smooth. Phil Spector covered up their voices with so many extra voices on the studio recordings that you could never really hear Nedra and Estelle..that is if they were on the recording at all.
The Lloyd Thaxton Shows are the missing link in rock and roll history. Unfortunately the films are sitting on the shelves of the UCLA Film Archives, never to be enjoyed by the public again. Lloyd wanted to put some of the shows on DVD but he died before that happened and UCLA got the films.
Wow!, you've done a fantastic job with this footage and the recut works really well. As for the medley name I add them to the episodes to make it easier to search through them. I usually try to go with an official name if it is stated in the episode otherwise I either go with the most prominent song or a name which describes the theme such as "Three R's in Four Bars" for a medley of school/education songs.
I was 14 when I saw her perform... in Wangaratta Aust. She was amazing!!! I had not heard better. She died from an autoimmune disease in her 30's. She married Molly Meldrom in Egypt. I love them both.
She reinvented herself as 'Alice Spring' in the 1970s with the band 'Slack Alice'- I saw them 4 times supporting S.A.H.B. on their main 1974 tour....to be honest, I prefer her 60s incarnation...LOVE the way she says 'Oh alright, I'll shake it then'!
The twins! They were so damned cute when they screwed up their movements then laughed about it--they were excellent--just young girls making nation wide shows! Mary managed em--booked travel, hotels, everything.
For thoae of us who remember (or want to admit it) - there was an exercise show in the 1980s called Hooked on Aerobics and they had a movement called The Freddie that was kind of based on this movement. It had three levels of exercise to help all fitness levels. There are some episodes on here that had that movement.
From California here. I loved that song as a kid. Now I realize ,after reading an article on Australian linguistics, that's it's an example of "hypochoristic" speech
Freddie has pretty good hops. I wonder if he can dunk? In all seriousness, that's a pretty catchy tune and he sings well. My classmates and I all loved it in Grade School.
It makes me so angry, I was looking for this gem on RU-vid today and it kept saying it was banned because of SESCA. Even when I changed my location to different countries, everything I try, it wouldn’t work. I came across this video and it’s the only one not banned!
What a great version of The Isley Brothers song. I didn‘t know Johnny died so young. Was this perhaps due to the car accident he had? After that crash his health apparently deteriorated.
Drug overdose IIRC, but he was never the same after the accident by all accounts. He was in and out of Psychiatric hospitals quite a bit in the early 60's. He did quite a bit to de-stigmatize mental illness in Australia from being so public about it.
His first 5 or 6 Singles were brilliant!!! His record company unfortunately didn't believe in albums, so you'll have to dig for gold like " Last night I was digging in the cemetery / up sprang a creature wild and hairy" Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Nicky Hopkins, etc...What a band! Who could ask for more??? Lord Sutch was absolutely mesmerizing before the Beatles🎉
