If you've already made a Glurp, the Blip is not a lot harder. Each level builds on the skills of the level before, so you'll use what you know and learn a bit about working with foam as well!
For anyone doing this frequently, there is a great tool called CombPal Scissor Clipper Over Comb Hair Cutting Tool (ordered from Amazon; your local beauty supply may also have it). It combs up the hair to a specific length, like 1/2" etc., so it's all the same length. I also have a bit of haircutting experience, so I use some of those skills when trimming animal fur -- like point cutting instead of perpendicular (when needed). After years of bearmaking (stitched by hand), I learned that trimming fur is *not* that easy and it's easy to make mistakes.
Hi! We have a walkthrough video that shows one of our fabricators making the Flick puppet kit from start to finish. It's not a tutorial per se, but it does show you the entire process. If you send an email with your order number to sales@monkeyboysproductions.com, we will send the link your way!
Hello! Our largest puppet kit, YAWP, contains 17 professional grade materials that have individually been hand cut and prepped as well as a full color instructional manual that teaches you proper puppet building technique. It also creates a live hand puppet with a wingspan of over 3 feet! If you are interested in a similar puppet at a lower price, you could try our intermediate MUNCH kit, which is 75% smaller at 50% of the price! We also have beginner puppet kits starting as low as $45! There are lots of options at all skill levels.
hello, i am not sure if you read these, but I want you to know, that I still really love stormy and baker, and would love to know more about the story behind the series, and why it was made, and if there are any plans to do anything else with the characters in the future. thanks a lot! -Guy
You absolutely can! We usually wait until the puppet is completely stitched before we trim it back for just that reason. It can be really nerve wracking, but artfully trimmed fur can make all the difference in a puppet's character!
The ladder stitch is used as a closure when the back side of the fabric is not accessible. For example, if you stitch something from the wrong side on three edges and then turn it right side out, you could use the ladder stitch to close the final side!
We keep our contact cement in a pistol pump oiler (like a mechanic might use to dispense oil) but you can also just dip the scrap foam into the can if you like!
The area where it is glued does change texture slightly, but if you have used a thin layer of contact cement, it should still be pliable and retain its "squishability!" Just be careful not to "squish" that area until after the glue has fully cured (48 hours or so) or you risk it misshaping your glued seam!
We had a video featuring Glurp, our beginner monster at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pm3udhs_4wQ.html We will also have a video featuring Blip, our intermediate monster coming soon! Stay tuned!
