Uhh I love those deep-dive videos! I appreciated it so much <3 I think Riko trying to hit Neil is an important moment in the final book... The way that didn't hit in my brain the first time I read the book that Neil could get murdered by this... In front of everybody on tv! I kindda missed the seriousness of this moment. I just realized that with Jean, in the Sunshine Court, watching the game and saying "Run." Oh god, it sent chills down my spine, I swear! I got anxious, even knowing what would happen. The despair Andrew must have fought seeing Neil about to fucking die! Another thing that strikes me is Neil being 'traumaless' after Nest. Like, a lot of torture? Where is the PTSD? ahahah Not that I want him suffering even more, but you know...
Just finished reading tsc after using your aftg deep dive vids to recap everything and OMFG I LOVED IT 🔥🔥🔥🔥😭😭😭 I seriously hope the next book comes out as soon as possible !!
I loved these recaps so much, they had me laughing at some moments and also shook at the crazy drama parts that I had forgotten 😂 you seriously deserve more views on this ty for the deep dives !! Also as someone who identifies as demi i personally headcanoned Neil as the same ♡ And agreed on the fics!! I was shocked when I saw how many there were and how GOOD they were too
Hello! I'm currently reading it and i had to watch reviews and reactions to it and yours is so nice! I've seen surprise in readers about the rich kid but i'm a romance and fantasy reader and there there's always someone so rich lol that i didnt think about it! I'm going to reread the trilogy because i've just didnt remember almost anything! Thanks for the video!
and yes!! i remember reading aftg the first time not really knowing that andrew and neil would get together until it happened. and even then i was like ?? i don’t really think they’ll work together. it took me time to get used to their dynamic and really love them (and now i do ofc). but with jean and jeremy it is instantly apparent that they go well together and i really love the way jeremy wants to support him and defend him from the beginning.
also i’m excited for book 2 to get more into the dynamics between Jean and his team + their gameplay! and i loved the way the book ended and it really displayed how much Jean has grown and now has these people who care about him without “needing to.” i remember him being baffled about why Neil would help him when he didn’t need to, and i can feel that in the second book Jean is really going to learn to accept that some people can be nice to him without ulterior motives 🫂 anyways this book was so devastating but also so hopeful and i can’t wait to read more 🙏🏽
ive just finished reading TSC and im glad ive found your channel, I need to listen other foxes driving in this madness - also it is just me or tsc hurts more than the aftg ?
I normally look up a picture to show, but I've had the same hairdresser for a while now. I think if you look up the Leonardo DiCaprio haircut from the 90s that's kind of it.
I was really looking forward to TSC because, while I enjoyed AFTG, I just needed a mentally stable character like Jeremy, lol. Don't get me wrong Andreil is and always will be endgame, but I really craved for scenes where they would comfort each other in a more emotionally mature way, and I just know that JereJean will satiate that need for me. Aside from that, I just finished reading TSC and the diversity and representation was just peak. It was exciting, it felt fresh and new, and I enjoyed it. But it was also tough to read at times and my heart just went out to Jean. He truly deserves the world and I can't wait for him to slowly open up to Jeremy. I never thought that I'd prefer this dynamic over Andrew and Neil, but here I am. I don't know if it is just the recency effect, but hey
I finished it yesterday morning and literally could not be a normal functioning human being for the rest of the day. It was so so good and so so sad. For like 2-3 hours after I read it I would just get randomly teary eyed if I thought too hard about anything
my favourite part reading about neil was just how dense he is. my brother in christ, andrew gave you hIS HOUSE AND CAR KEYS WHAT ABOUT THAT SAYS "I FEEL INDIFFERENT TOWARDS YOU" NEIL???
I am so late to this video but I can’t agree more about the Nicky/eden scene. It’s one of the moments in the book I can’t deal with because Nora never addressed it again. There’s no catharsis or retribution. I don’t understand how he is one of the fandom favorites with how predatory he acts. Especially since one of the core plot points is the explicit consent due to Andrew’s past.
Andrew drugged and hurt Neil for no reason since the start and didn’t even apologize. Kevin comment after Andrew tragedy is vile. And we can continue about all the other characters being morally incorrect at a certain point, and still being loved. Simply because they are fictional characters and people either ignore it since there’s more interesting stuff about them or just acknowledge but still like them
@@Moonlightss320 Andrew was drugged himself, with no impulse control and was tasked with protecting Kevin from a murderous maniac. I think that Nora didn’t know enough about drugs and how they work to have written that scene well, but at least there was a legitimate reason for Andrew to drug Neil if it protected Kevin. I’m not a huge fan of Kevin either, but a shitty comment is not the same as sexually assaulting someone - which is my answer to the rest of what you just said. It’s super weird how this fandom acts around this issue. Why not just address the fact this wasn’t handled well and love the character in fan-fictions?
I read in reddit that it was the Nora's own racism that made only openly gay Mexican character predatory. It is not even mentioned in other books because of maybe some backlash it got at that time . Also Nicky is not at all that loved in atleast reddit community. I certainly was angry when read that scene. Also with drug, Nora herself admits she took many liberties with it.
@@adaaaa6642 I didn’t realize there was a Reddit AFTG community, that’s good to know! I’m more in the AO3 side of the fandom where most people just pretend like it never happened. There is definitely a lot of inconsistency with the medication and drugs in the books. I prefer the last two books just because it feels like she fleshed out who she wanted the characters to be so their actions are more true to that.
OMG IM OBSESSED! This is basically required viewing to be my friend with how much I’m in love with and talk about this series :”0 thanks so much for the hard work that went into it!
These deepdives are so good! you handled the heavy stuff really well and with some great commentary, good job 👍 Do you think you'll make a deepdive/review of The Sunshine Court whenever it comes out?
Thank you for posting this. I am currently listening to the audio books and have nearly finished the second book. I’m trapped I’m stuck I’m in love. Can’t get enough and I’m so glad I’ve found myself here.
I hopehopehope these books can kinda get me over aftg. Aftg has stuck with me, and I cannot let go. I'm rereading it for the fourth time now, and no book was able to compare to it 🥲
i was in a similar position in march 2022 when i first listened to the audiobooks. i kinda fell into a reading slump after finishing them and have now decided i really want to get back into reading. i am almost done re-listening to them and thankfully came across this video. really hoping that i enjoy these books as closely as i did aftg! from the holly black books i have read im almost sure id enjoy any of hers! 🤩🙌🏻
I haven't read any of the extra content, but maybe! I might talk about my favorite fanfics because I feel like people prefer those over Nora's extra content.
@@cmidla4695 nora's refusal to let andrew get better in the extra content really moved the fans to fanfics i think. she shows some small moments of growth for him and obviously trauma like andrew's absolutely takes ages to heal, but her talking about andrew as if his apathy is inherent to him and not a direct symptom of his ptsd and depression really rubbed me the wrong way. if he's been in therapy for this whole time and bee is as good at her job as nora says she is, then andrew the way she describes him in the future just makes no sense. his whole arc in the books is allowing people to get close and letting them see his weaknesses, so he isn't opposed to getting better, which means therapy and the strong support system he has should help. like, yes, the life with neil and the cats is wonderful to know about, but constantly denying he feels anything towards anyone in his life that isn't neil and doubling down on his complete lack of joy just being a permanent personality trait grinds my gears. that being said, i'd love a video on fanfics, because there are some fun ones out there.
Am I going to sit here and watch the whole hour and a half? Only an insane person would do that…. I am the insane person. It’s me. I will sit here and watch the whole hour and a half
after this video I'm 100% sure that we AFTG readers are the most obsessive, abrasive, devoted and passionate fans that ever existed in the internet, we are either crazy or the books are just that good. I mean, yeah the story is fucked up, but I loved every single chacaracter even the most dislikeable ones because of how human they can be, also Andrew and Neil are easily one of the best characters I have ever read, so yes, i'm going to over look the nonsense of the mafia, and a sport that is the bastard child of lacrosse and hockey and was created 30 years ago and already has teams and players all over the world, and has become an olympic sport out of nowhere, or the fact that andrew's medication shouldn't be legal, or...whatever. this books are crap and they ruined my life, I will love this series and its characters to the end of my days. long life to the queen of exy and all that. idk how I wrote this, english is not my first lenguague. great video btw :p
